I just need more training

If you follow me for a while you probably know that I like riding bikes a lot and talked about it several times. However since I relocated back to my hometown only did that on plain roads. No hills, no climbs, no rocks, no nothing. Just smooth concrete and straight roads. A year ago when I was in Norway I rode my bike on some quite a few hills there, near the beautiful fjords, as the country is not having too much plain terrain, but in my home town I'm " mostly plain".
Yesterday though I tried to go on a pretty high hill on a road of about a kilometer that only goes up. I had about 4km from home till there also, but I wouldn't count that. As much as I believed I could do it I actually couldn't. Halfway till the peak of it I simply quit. My heart was pumping too hard and my chest was hurting from the too aggressive breath that I had. Really couldn't go all the way. Some 14 years old kids did it by the way so I'm not quitting. I'm just training so I can make it in a couple of days. Wish me luck!

I've been in similar situations so many times, after a long break without biking I get completely out of breath. One trick may be to bike slower ;-) While biking in Beijing I realized that I was the fastest biker, everyone else was biking slower than me. I think it's quite strange.

Once (in Oslo) I was going up a hill in modest speed, and got overtaken ... by a lady ... a lady that was elder than me! O the indignity! I sped up just a tiny little bit, didn't pass her but kept a constant distance. She was biking at constant speed, and almost managed to climb the whole hill. It seems like very suddenly it was too much for her, the speed crawled down to the bare minimum she could hold without falling ...

I noticed that also at elderly people in Oslo. I guess they ride the bike daily. I kinda pushed too hard from the beginning and drained almost all of my energy yesterday. I will keep a constant pace next time. Will learn from the kids doing that with no problem 😁.

I felt the same way in the beginning. Today I can do it so easily! Hold on!

I am holding on and pushing harder every day.
