Cliff Jumping at Hippie Hole, South Dakota
Hippie Hole, a hidden treasure in the Black Hills of S. Dakota, epitomizes a great American swim hole.
The 22-foot leap into Battle Creek seems a bit daunting at first!
However, for most jumpers it is the hand-over-hand rope climb back out of the pool that proves more difficult and dangerous.
On this day, about 30 people had made the short but strenuous scramble to the cliffs overlooking the creek. Half were jumpers, while others enjoyed spectating with warm beers and oldie tunes from the rock benches above.
Perched high above all, a mountain goat watched the fun from his shady alcove.
