Citybreak - 5 Minute Freewrite - prompt: Canal
CITYBREAK
Is it the tulips themselves that have these wonderfully vibrant colours or is it how they reflect the light from our superstar sun?
As we walk around Keukenhof holding hands, with our every sense captivated by the techicolour dreamcoat of flowers, our minds are allowed to drift from the reality of our present.
Later on that evening we stroll aimlessly along the canals that caress every corner of this city, we pass the sombre human centipede of people as they queue to see Anne Franks house - a stark reminder of man's inhumanity to man.
We find a perch beside a boathouse, hugging the canal, and sit and watch the sun set. A tear runs down Katie's cheek and all she can muster is:
"Why!?"
I try to be strong
"The circle of life my love, it is what it is, and no more"
She rests her wet face on mine and we watch the sun slowly dispense the last of its brigtht bounty upon the canal.
"Let's enjoy today and not talk about it anymore"
It was a perfect day, Dave's 11th last, as he soon lost his battle to pancreatic cancer
For those not familiar with the freewrite, you basically have 5 minutes to write a story, beginning to end. Then post it to your page.
Thanks to @mariannewest for this outlet, I've really enjoyed taking part so far.
This weeks prompt was "Canal" and the post can be found here https://steemit.com/freewrite/@mariannewest/day-116-5-minute-freewrite-monday-prompt-canal
This was a great story! The two walking through the beautiful flower garden, making a memory together is so bittersweet.
Thanks @brisby It is a sad truth for some people, so important to write about I feel. On a brighter note, Kaukenhof is incredibly beautiful, there are 7 million tulips and the place comes alive with colour around March/April each year!

this makes you want to know more about the story!
Thanks for the comment jyezie, I'm glad it was engaging
Oh dear, that was such a good story. And the ending just broke my heart - I just did not see that coming. YOu're right, we should enjoy the day.

Thanks so much for stopping by with your encouraging words and for the new prompt, I will have a go at it later on
Hate pancreatic cancer!!!
Yes it is particularly bad, as cancers go, so aggressive.. It was on my mind as a former Ireland football player, who was the same age as me (36) just died from it last week.. He left his wife and 3 kids behind - so tragic :(
