Cameras everywhere today, they want to know our every move. That being said crime is a huge problem in my country so cameras are all over to help us more than monitor us.
A camera set on wheels, that is so funny.
I thought it was unique too. There are a lot of cameras here but barely any serious crimes asides from domestic stuff which is difficult to prevent with public CCTVs. Its mostly used to enforce city bylaws.

Good to hear serious crime is minimal.
The scary thing over here is that the cameras get stolen my friend.
That portable camera will not last for one day here.
The thieves simply mask their faces and if they cannot steal it, they damage it.
Tough times here!
Blessings!
That seems to be awful. Glad I live somewhere where the worst problem seems to be rude people and pollution.

@abitcoinskeptic - very comprehensive blog about how surveillance is being used (abused). Cameras are everywhere now and it's scary. And now that more and more people are getting these AI devices - such as Amazon's Alexa series - your private homelife is being recorded as well.
Iphones have the apple assistant built in Androids have google and the manufacturers assistant. If you download amazon you have one too.
The best part is they say it isnt eing abused which I understand to mean they are definitely abusing it.

It is scary that AI can track everything you do, especially in a country like China. :)
Authoritarians all over can rejoice. AI is very easy to program 100% agreement with your decisions. I guess sooner or later they will brag about no inch being left uncovered in their country.
I recently saw a car using cameras for doing parking tickets.. I get that that is much more efficient... but I wonder if it is bit too much.
Anyway, we also have the portable CCTV camera towers here... but they are generally for the private security of construction sites or occasionally for public events. Interestingly enough, unlike your photo, they tend to be fenced off and chained to something heavy....
I also find it a bit much for illegal parking, but I guess it's better than getting towed. I've seen the private ones and they are definitely chained up better. Stealing the one for the city would probably be a bad idea since I imagine the prosecutor will get you for something serious like obstruction.
Is that the alley way in your photo? It looks pleasant. If they can't stop the people they can build aone of those smoking bus shelter thing with bins so at least the mess is concentrated at one spot , makes cleaning easier.
As to surveillance , just read an article from the Guardian Newspaper this morning that if you enter Xi jiang in China from the Kyrgyzstan border, the border police ask you for your phone pin and take your phone away for up to an hour!!!
Admittingly, the alleyway looks ok and the tower helps, but I do think a garbage can and ashtray would be a more reasonable solution. I don't like it, but people who smoke need somewhere to smoke.
It is kinda scary that the government will take away your phone when entering the country even if you did nothing wrong. I'd recommend storing your data on a micro SD and removing it from your phone.

As much as I'd like to visit Xi Jiang, China isn't high on my list at the moment which is a shame. Storing dats off the phone is the easy part, not knowing what's been installed or planted on your phone is the scary part
Yeah, maybe if I go I'll just bring my old phone. It still works and I've formatted it. Better than using my current phone if they are going to install programs to spy on me.
