Finally Fixed My 3D Printer

in #3dprint6 years ago

So sometime last year I bought a 3D printer from Monoprice. The specific model is the Maker Select v2. Anyways after a few months of having the printer the plastic stopped feeding in the extruder. So I finally got the motivation to do something today with it.

So apparently the plastic came out of the feeder and wrapped around the shaft behind the stepper motor gear. I first noticed the issue when the stepper motor was just clicking and not catching the filament.

The process for fixing this is pretty simple, just remove the two fan screws, take the fan and the heat sink off. Don’t loose the screws or spacers, then take the two screws for the feeder off, don’t loose the spring. Then it’s just a matter of pulling out the filament from behind the gear.

Good that you finally manged to do it... I wonder how do pictures / objects come out of a 3D printer... Never saw ones... if you have some pictures of some outputs post them.. would be nice to know what we're missing.

So other than the default butterfly CAD file that comes with the printer, I tried to print a BB-8 from Star Wars. So I downloaded these files from a Star Wars fan club that did R2D2 and now BB-8 builds. So this is the BB-8 head piece. I must say for a 300 dolllar printer, I think the quality is alright. Granted this print job took something like 14-18 hours of non stop printing. Now that I got the issue resolved maybe I will print the rest of it. Hopefully someday down the road the technology improves and it doesnt take as long.

Amazing... You can print anything in 3D once you upload it's file into the printer... Thanks for sharing those pics.
