am impressed at the suspense you put into this, i guess the person you're talking about is a hero 'He had held five hundred lives in his hands. though i want to know what happened to him.
The five hundred lives he had held in his hands is referring to his passengers - he's a pilot. I had to google to make sure I got the number right, apparently an Airbus A380 can hold 544 people.
But! He could be a hero, if fate is kind. :)
