Книжковий хробачок, огляд 22: Сходи, що кричать - Little bookworm, review 22: The streaming stairs

Доброго ранку, шановна спільното!

Сьогодні я розпочинаю серію з пʼяти дописів про серію книжок, яка особисто мені дуже припала до душі. До того, як я прочитала цей цикл я не була знайома а ні з автором, а ні з його творчістю, проте час від часу мені траплялися відгуки на серію у буктоці, усі позитивні, та також я час від часу бачила другий том з серії у своїй публічній бібліотеці та думала - треба врешті решт почитати.

І ось я нарешті добралася до серії книжок «Локвуд і Ко». Серія написана для підлітків, але я її прочитала з великим задоволенням.

Серія, як я вже сказала, має пʼять томів:

1. Сходи, що кричать
2. Череп, що шепоче
3. Примарний хлопець
4. Тінь, що крадеться
5. Порожня могила

Останню книгу я дочитала якихось кілька годин тому, тож буду розповідати про серію по свіжих слідах.

Серія розповідає досить цікаву історію. Сетінг - Лондон кілька десятиріч тому, але з одним нюансом - у наш світ почали потрапляти привиди. Цих привидів у книжці називають «гості». Дотик привида смертельний, а якщо не дотик, то й погляд деяких з них призводить до ментального колапсу.

Особливістю світу є те, що привидів бачать тільки діти й підлітки, тож саме вони з ними борються. Для боротьби використовується досить типове знаряддя, як у більшості книжок такого типу: привиди бояться металу, тому всі діти, яки з ними бʼються ходять з рапірами, бояться срібла, проточної води. Зокрема для цього світу характерне іще використання сольових та магнієвих бомб.

Як можна зрозуміти з віку головних героїв це література категорії для підлітків, максимум young adult. Однак я неодноразово говорила, що дуже часто через таких книжок трапляються справжні скарби, і ця серія є одним з них.

Отже, трохи про перший том. У місті діє комендантська година, після заходу сонця перебування на вулиці небезпечне, саме через те, що у цій порі до ти починають зʼявлятися привиди. Молода дівчина Люсі дістає посаду оперативника мисливця на привидів, і якись час успішно працює, аж поки не трапляється історія, у якій гине майже вся її команда. Люсі почувається винною, та втрачає довіру до дорослого керівника їх агенції (дорослі не бачать і не чують привидів, тож не можуть з ними битися), і вирішує зі свого маленького містечка перебратись до Лондона і знайти роботу там.

Вона обходить безліч агенцій, і скрізь їй відмовляють, аж поки вона не натрапляє на агенцію «Локвуд і Ко».

Today I'm starting a series of five posts about a series of books that I personally really liked. Before I read this series, I was not familiar with either the author or his work, but from time to time I came across reviews of the series in booktok, all of them positive, and I also occasionally saw the second volume of the series in to my public library and thought - you have to read it after all.

And so I finally got to the series of books "Lockwood and Co." The series is written for teenagers, but I read it with great pleasure.

The series, as I have already said, has five volumes:

1. Screaming stairs
2. Whispering skull
3. Ghostly guy
4. The sneaking shadow
5. The empty tomb

I finished the last book a few hours ago, so I will talk about the series on fresh tracks.

The series tells a rather interesting story. The setting is London several decades ago, but with one nuance - ghosts began to enter our world. These ghosts are called "guests" in the book. The touch of a ghost is deadly, and if not the touch, then the look of some of them leads to mental collapse.

The peculiarity of the world is that ghosts are seen only by children and teenagers, so they are the ones who fight them. For fighting, a fairly typical weapon is used, as in most books of this type: ghosts are afraid of metal, so all the children who fight with them walk with rapiers, they are afraid of silver, running water. In particular, this world is also characterized by the use of salt and magnesium bombs.

As can be understood from the age of the main characters, this is literature of the category for teenagers, maximum young adult. However, I have repeatedly said that very often through such books real treasures come across, and this series is one of them.

So, a little about the first volume. There is a curfew in the city, it is dangerous to be outside after sunset, precisely because ghosts start appearing at this time. A young girl, Lucy, gets a job as an operative of a ghost hunter and works successfully for a while, until a story happens in which almost all of her team dies. Lucy feels guilty and loses trust in the adult head of their agency (adults cannot see or hear ghosts, so they cannot fight them), and decides to move from her small town to London and find a job there.

She bypasses many agencies and is rejected everywhere, until she comes across the Lockwood & Co. agency.
