Heroes Of Mavia - Puzzling Game Logic

The gaming logic of the troops attack in the game Heroes of Mavia can sometimes be very puzzling. Sometimes the decision taken by the troops in terms of moving direction or attacking targets can be perplexing.

In the above image, my hero was attacking the enemy's turret. I would expect him to attack the gold storage or the air defence after that, since both are assessible in the same compartment. However, to my surprise, he didn't. Instead, he tried to bash through the walls to gp for the target beyond his reach.

The 2nd shows my hero attacking the wall to go after the building outside the wall. Why did he not attack something that is assessible to him? I really cannot understand the logic of the game. And no surprise, I didn't managed to kill of the enemy's base...
