SEC17 WK:#6: My Family, My Pride!

Hello friends

Do you know I have a sweet family? All day all long my family stick together!

But what then is a family?

A family always consist of human beings like parents and children. Some families are more large than the other. There are families where even grandparents live together with their children and grandchildren, such can be called extended family.

My Family and her uniqueness

My family is one of the unique family in existence. It initially consisted of my father, mother and my four siblings.

I have 3 brothers and one sister. One uniqueness about my family is the way my mum gave birth to us, I mean the sequence at which she gave birth, The first child is a boy, the second a girl, the third a boy, the fourth a girl and the fifth a boy. Isn't that a unique sequence?

That's not all, the age gap between us is another thing that makes my family unique. The first is older than the second child with two years, the second is older than the third with two years, the third child is older than the fourth with four years, the fourth is older than the fifth with four years! Amazing..

I come from a very simple family, my parents worked hard to give us the best education they could afford. I remember how my mum would keep saving up money for our well-being each time Dad gives her money.

My mum was so amazing that she could manage whatever amount given to her to make a great meal, save up and take care of the home. My Dad was always proud of her.

Our education was top priority to my parents so they enrolled us in one of the best schools and Dad would always challenge us to do better each term and semester by setting prizes or gifts for us if we came out top in class.

We had a healthy competition going on between I and my siblings. We all wanted to be the best so that we can collect Dads gift. I remember I was always winning Daddy's gift because I came top each time. Once the gift from my Dad was a full chicken. That day I came home with my result so happy. My Dad saw it was excited, he went to the market himself and bought the chicken.

Mum prepared the chicken and put it in a bowl for me to eat, I ate and ate until I could not longer eat, then my Dad and everyone joined in the enjoyment. It was so much fun.

My neighbors always loved how we are always happy and motivated to do well in our studies and how Dad gave us gifts. Once, a child of my neighbor asked my Dad if he could adopt him as his son. Hahaha!

Our Prayer Time

Guess what I first leant how to pray from my mum. Every morning my parents will wake up and seat at the living room singing, they will sing for 5 minutes waiting for us to come out. When she notices we don't want to come out,she comes to our rooms to wake us up.

Mum had a time table for everyone to carry out a responsibility. Some days my name fell on days I lead the prayers while some days I am in charge of sharing God's word with everyone. So each of us is forced to prepare for our prayer time. I guess that's how I learnt to pray and teach God's word aside Sunday schools.

Our Study Time

Every day we have a time for us to read our books and do our homework given in school. We were not allowed to go out to play during the hours of our study time. My siblings and I are to study for nothing less than 30 minutes every day. We kept this rule until we were all done with secondary school.

It was fun studying with my siblings, sometimes our parents join us in our study time either to ask us questions about what we have read or to check up on what we were doing.

Story and fun time

Our story and fun time was always at night after dinner. My mum is a good story teller. Her stories are always captivating.

Each time it's groundnut season, my parents will buy like a full bag of it and keep in the house. After dinner mum cooks groundnut and shares it amongst my siblings.

While we are eating the boiled groundnut she tells us beautiful stories. And the funny part is that she ask my siblings and I to donate some portion of our groundnut to her so that she can eat it to have strength to tell the stories. Hahaha so funny.

Management and Savings

My parents always taught us how to manage what we have and the benefit of savings. We may not have had much back then but we always saved.

Mum was known as our family bank, we always gave her money to keep for us and mum did something great for us, she bought several savings box for us and labeled our names on each of it, so whenever any of us gave her money she would put it in the box that belongs to us.

She was also saving for Dad, and guess what? Dad used his own part of the savings to build a house isn't that great? Mum broke the box one day and it was full of money and then she told Dad that we will use the money to build us a house and Dad agreed. Dad bought a land and built the house. Currently, my parents still lives in that house today. Now imagine if mum didn't save for Dad?

Siblings Disagree

My siblings especially my brothers while growing up always fight. Sometimes my sister have disagreement with my brothers and guess what? The major disagreement was either because of food or house chores.

My sister doesn't eat much so each time she cooked she dishes the food to my siblings according to how she eats, and they get angry that the food was small and she insist that they should eat it like that.

Other times, my brother's leave the house chores for my sister especially when they notice my parents are not home. My sister reports to my parents and my brothers are punished then my brothers will try to beat her up when my parents are not home.

My siblings have disagreement because we are different even though we are siblings but one thing is for sure,we love each other.

Today my sister is married and has her own children like wise my two elder brothers,they are married and have their own children. Now my family comprises of my parents, my siblings, my inlaws, my nieces and nephews. We don't live in the same city or house but we often spend quality time in our house every Christmas holiday

All the qualities about my family always wants me to go back home to my family because we are exceptional!

The Gift I would give my family

The gift I would really love to give my family would be a customized family portrait comprising my parents, siblings, my inlaws, my nieces and nephews

This would be presented whenever we gather together to celebrate a family occasion. I would present it to my family in honour and celebration of how far we have gone sticking together and growing together.
