RF PEN ART: A Step by Step drawing of a Realistic ballpoint pen portrait
MODEL: Toyosi Abolarin ( Client)
MEDIUM: 18cm × 20 cm cardboad paper, ballpoint pen (e.g Bic biro)
DURATION: Approximately 2 Days
PEN ART BY : Rf Abol
The first step when drawing or sketching with ballpoint pen, firstly use gridlines or line numbering scaling with reference to the main picture to get the accurate sketch out of the image in the photo with a very light graphite pencil such as 2H, a graphite pencil will be necessary because of mistakes and error, incase if the right sketch is not well outlined.
After you have the sketch , then use the ballpoint pen to shade by using a cross hatching strokes very close and light, not thick yet to get the appropriate coverage for the areas of light and darkness, on sketch according to the way it is in the reference photo image.
PROCESS ONE
Re- apply cross hatching with strokes to form double or multiple layers on the sketch to prevent the white paper from appearing underneath except for area showimg light reflection to make it looks realistic
PROCESS TWO
I ensured that i put more concentration on the mouth, because when the mouth can be seen more vividly it makes a drawing look more real, the same applies to other features like the eye, ear, nose.
PROCESS THREE
Now the jaw side of the face most be given equal attention to get a nice view, hence i cross hatch neatly closely tight and light strokes
PROCESS FOUR
Process four is about putting shades on the ear and hair, now to draw the hair side, i firstly make a placement or drawing up of lines to form something like a mesh, the reason is that the first layer of the shading will shine underneath the darker shades use to present the dark hair side.
PROCESS FIVE
after the previous processes just the face and head is done, to make a realistic ballpoint pen or any drawing, its always good to put in complete details in it, hence process five is about the neck, i firstly put in a hatching for the first layer and then makes it looks real by adding few more strokes on it to form anpfer layer with a goal to eliminate the presence of white paper appearance
PROCESS SIX
Process six is about the cloth and wears, one need to put more effect of shadow for the dark areas of the cloth, this is done by the ballpoint pen by applying more pressure on the pen
Finally i put the same process i used for the process number six for the suit as well
