Achievement 2 @blessedbee Task: Basic Security on Steem
Hello friends, how are you? I believe you are great, I am writing to perform my achievement 2 tasks.
I want to begin by telling you a little about security since this task has to do with security on steemit.
Security is a state of being free from threat, be it financially, physically, emotionally, etc. But in this context, it may be referred to as a state of being free from the threat on the steemit platform by keeping our keys safe and secure.
This task will get me acquainted with the various keys on the steemit platform, their functions, restrictions, and how to keep the keys safe and secure. This task will also get me acquainted with how to transfer liquid steem to another steemit user, and how to power up my liquid steem. I want to perform my task now, the following subheadings perform my Achievement 2 tasks.
Retrieval of keys
Yes, I have retrieved my keys on steemit. This was accomplished with the use of the Master key on steemit.com. I used this avenue to retrieve the posting key, owner key, active key, and memo key. The master key was given to me upon signing up for steemit, and this key was used to retrieve other keys, afterward, I stored them in a safe place.
Each key function and restrictions
The keys to the steemit platform perform different functions and restrictions, these are as follows:
(1) Master Key: The master key is the master of all the keys as it is called. The key is given at the account's sign-ups, it would be used to generate other keys, like; posting, active, owner, and memo keys. The master key can be used to regenerate other keys if they are lost, it can even be used to change other keys- the reason the master key should be kept safe.
(2) Posting Key:
The posting key is used for sign-ins, should a user want to log in to his account and post, comment, edit, vote, and devote, this key is used. This key can also be used to follow and mute other accounts.
(3) Active Key: Sensitive tasks are performed on steemit with the use of an active key, these tasks are; the transfer of tokens, power-up/down of steem, converting SBD to steem, voting for steemit witnesses, update of one's steemit profile, and place of market order.
(4) Owner Key: The owner key is used to reset other keys on steemit, even the owner key itself.
(5) Memo Key: This very key is used for sending encrypting and decrypting memos during funds transfers.
HOW I KEEP MY MASTER KEY
This is a delegate key of all the keys, the key can make one go bankrupt if not kept secure. Therefore I keep my master key safe in a place accessible to me only, I don't expose it to others no matter who the person is. It is in a deposit box, inaccessible to others, but safe and can't be lost.
Difference between memo and master key
The master is the most powerful key among the two keys, the master key can change itself and all other keys including the memo key, While the memo key can not change the master key, but change itself and other keys.
HOW TO TRANSFER STEEM TO ANOTHER USER
I am conversant with how to transfer steem to another user, I practice it myself to ensure I can do it. These are the steps I took to transfer steem to another user;
(1) Sign in to my wallet
(2) Log in to my wallet with my posting key
(3) Click on the icon in front of the liquid steem
(4) Click on the transfer option
(5) Key in the user I want to transfer steem to and click on the next option
(6) Confirm the transfer by clicking OK option
(7) Complete the transfer by signing in with my active key
Boom, I can transfer steem to another user with the above steps.
HOW TO POWER UP
I know how to power up my liquid steem. I took the following steps to power up my steem:
(1)Sign in to my wallet
(2) Log in to my wallet
(3) Click on the sign in front of the liquid steem
(4) Click on the power-up option
(5) Key in the amount of steem I wanted to power up(85), then click on the power-up icon
(6) Confirm transfer to vesting by clicking on the OK option
(7)My Steem power has increased as indicated here
I am done powering up my steem.
CONCLUSION
Security is very important in the steemit platform, keeping the keys safe is essential as losing them can cause the account to, I am happy to learn how to transfer steem to another user, and how to power up my liquid steem as this will help me grow in the platform.
