Eyes Never Get Old

Hello everyone, let's take a walk down the memory lane while I tell you a story about my grandfather.

I wrote about him before, he was one of the most influential people in my life. Optimistic and hard working man, an honest one. He had six brothers and sisters, and only one brother is still alive. They all lived pretty long and happy lives, my grandfather even celebrated hit 76th birthday with his mother at the party.

His brother Aleksandar (I call him grandpa) was the mischief in the family, he loved to prank other people, especially his mother. She told us stories from their childhood, how he would get out of the house in the morning with words like:

"It's a great day for adventure!"

Then he would climb tries, boulders, make some kind of inventions to help him with his chores. Later, when he was older he got in to a lot of fights, mostly defending his sisters from their wooers. The stories can go on for days.

It was a different time back then, and he had kind of a "bad boy" image, and women seam to fall for that to this day. You might say he was popular, but the exact words would be "bachelor". He was from a wealthy family, good looking and smart, and had a sense of adventure and humor. But he didn't want to get married, so much so, that he escaped on his wedding day, through a window (it was an arranged marriage) to find the woman he loves. Told you, stories for days with this guy.

My grandfather (right), with Aleksandar

He did marry her, and they had a son. Lived pretty peacefully for the rest of the years. He is old now, about 85, but to this day one thing remains the same - his eyes. They never got old! When you look at those watery blue eyes, you can still see the little boy desperate to go on another adventure. His body maybe weaker, but his mind is as young as ever. You can see the spark still alive in his childlike looks and facial expressions. When he smiles his eyes smile too, telling you a story with every spark and every wrinkle on his face, if you know how to "listen".

I asked him, being the weird kid that I was (and still am), did he have any regrets. He said "None" without hesitations.

I love that about my family, no matter how old we get we tend to stay children at hart.

With love,
Tamara
