Creativity and Exploration in Writing Fiction Works

Several times I wasboxed by fellow writers. Then we were involved in light talk about the creative process and exploration in writing. Mainly writing fiction.

Of the many friends there are those who claim to be 'a little' curious about my behavior. Yes, I say 'little'. Because I know the truth about them - the writer's friends are far more creative than myself.

Their curiosity is expressed in various sentences. Like, "How come, how come Lilik writes like that? Where do you get her ideas? Love to tell her the secret." Or, "Share the recipe so you can be creative in writing."

I was reminded, when last year I was given the opportunity to meet face to face with the younger students at the Malang Malik Ibrahim UIN campus. Some of the students' students - around 200 people, asked the same thing as they listened to the short stories I posted in Kompasiana.

Their supervisor - Mas Akhmad Muklis, did not hesitate to be an intermediary to resolve the students' curiosity by asking me directly in a closed forum at the Humanities Campus hall.

Below I quote again our conversation.

"Ma'am Lilik, in one of the short stories entitled Pawang Hujan, we had a discussion. A work, of course, needs research. Did Lilik do it before writing the short story?"

My answer at that time was very innocent and innocent. Answer The mother is what she is.

"I don't know if I have done the research. What is clear is that I experienced it myself. Being a fad children who interfere with the activities of parents when they try to run a procession to ward off rain."

I don't lie or deny. Of the many works of my fiction, almost all the events I have experienced. It really happened in my real life.

If there is a part of my work that is rather absurd, it is solely because of my great curiosity. Also supported by my reading interest that is difficult to stem.

I often accidentally find ideas from reading that I am enjoying. For example, I suddenly wanted to know the tradition of one of the primitive tribes in a country. I did roaming, browsing. And it's very nice to find it. I read and studied it carefully. Then I want to write it back to my imagination.

Regarding the tradition that applies in this primitive tribe I have written in a short story entitled: Calm down Mary, She is Dead.

Indeed, if asked about my creative process in writing, I honestly can't answer it in detail. Because I'm just a self-taught writer. I study alone. Without a teacher or mentor. Especially until the writing course. Everything happens and flows just like that.

What I want to write - which happened to stop in my head, yes, at that moment I made it happen in the form of a story.

At the moment I am interested in poetry. It is nothing. I am the person who is a waste. And love challenges.

One attempt to avoid my boredom in writing, I had to encourage myself by doing something that made me happy and happy to do it.

About poetry. Some of my fiction works were posted in Kompasiana since 2015, perhaps for this work not too much. Can be counted on the fingers. Not as happy as me in writing short stories.

So why have I been impressed to write poetry lately?

Once again I say, I am typebreaking and love challenges.

I still remember, one or two of my poems had previously received scathing criticism from reliable experts. Some say I 'feel' when writing poetry. Wow ...

Starting from these criticisms, I was not inferior or retreated, instead feeling increasingly challenged to continue learning. Unite my feelings. Choose a good diction to be enjoyable. Although it hasn't been fully successful, at least my poems have begun to find their way. The impression of feeling 'has melted a little.

Well, how? I have divulged some secrets that are really not a secret. Because every writer must have it. Only sometimes do not realize that each has the ability to creativity and explore their own work.

Hopefully we can conclude our own creative and exploration processes in writing my version of this fiction.
