MY VOCAB PRACTICE

1)Acrid: bitter, harsh in taste or smell.

The smell of acrid smoke made his eyes water, blurring his vision.

2)Acrimonious: bitter, hateful, angry.

The man's argument was passionate, full of harsh and acrimonious judgments that confirmed his prejudices.

3)Acerbic: sour, caustic, sarcastic.

Bill Hicks is widely known for his acerbic sense of humour, that is why he was called "The Dark Poet".

4)Exacerbate: to aggravate, to irritate, to embitter.

I think the venezuelan government's desire to revalue the country's currency only exacerbates the economical crisis, instead of solving it.

This was an interest exercise, I thought really hard on my sentences and I think they show understanding of the meaning of the words. This is going to help me a lot when I start writing fiction again! Thanks.

P.s: I had to edit because I hadn't notice that if I added a space between the ) and the word it wouldn't count the number series!

Good work. In fact, your sample sentences clearly express the meaning "in context."

Good luck as you continue. I truly hope it helps you develop and improve your usable vocab.

As for the spacing issue, there are various such things that one has to learn as one posts on Steemit. But once you learn, it soon becomes second nature. Also, if you need to find out, just ask. Many people are more than willing to offer advice.

This is awesome. I absolutely love this idea.
I love improving my vocabulary and linguistic capabilities.
I would love to follow this and participate in it regularly.

Take care and many thanks for starting this useful, constructive and productive vocabulary program.
I Absolutely love it 🌷🌷🌷

I'm glad you like it. Since you were raving about it, I was wondering why you were not participating. Then I read ... "sleepy."

Have a good rest.

Thanks for your compliments. I look forward to your participation. (Please be sure to read the rules -- some people haven't read them, and submitted their exercises. GRRRR!! In fact, many people don't even read the post, then leave comments filled with hollow praise. Weird!!)

Looks good. Reads well.

oh! Too late for this one :/

Technically, yes. But, fuck it all, rules are made to be bent, twisted, distorted, stomped on, ignored, abrogated, and broken.

And since there are not many entrants as of these early posts, I'll be glad to accept yours. Do your entries for posts #1 and #2 ASAP, and remind me if I do not check / upvote them by Sunday.

Glad to see your "face" again. I expect your constant attendance at my "lectures."

Read Rule #5. In fact, read ALL the rules. If you're gonna participate in the daily exercises, you should understand the rules.

I went through Rule number 5 is it okay now?

No. The first two are the roots, and not English words.

Am I not supposed to write sentences on Roots?

Many languages whose origin is European (English, Spanish, German, Italian, etc.), come from Latin and Greek. Because of that, all of them share linguistic roots (I don't know if that is the actual terminology-not an expert). So many words that start with "acri", for example, usually refer ti something that is bitter. So you can use this fact to easily remember and memorize those words.

Maybe I'm wrong, though, please correct me @majes.tytyty

Correct. In fact, that's an excellent explanation, which is a restatement of what is written in the "Introduction."

Thanks for your input.

p.s. Actually, German has few roots from Latin or Greek. French does.

These English roots came through French.

Thanks to you for the lessons. Looking fwd to be an active member of all of them. Cheers from México!

No. The roots are not words in themselves.

My bad, So I just have to frame sentences on example based words only.

"Exacerbate" is a verb. You used it as an adjective. :-(

  1. ✖️
  2. ✖️( 1 and 2 are roots of words; these are not words)
  3. ✔️
  4. ✔️
  5. ✖️( this is a verb , not an adjective)
  6. ... (I am not sure about this one)

Hi @aishaali.

Thanks for your input, but can you please hold off on such instructive comments to others, until the 23-deadline is past. (See note #3, under Shedule in "Notes on VocPractice" box above.)

Cheers

Oh...I am so sorry. I won’t do it again.

No problem. I realize that you were trying to help, and I am grateful that you would do so under my post.
Looking forward to YOUR entries!
