The Road To Hell Is Paved With Solid Excuses

They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

I would modify this to say the road to hell is paved with solid excuses.

What happens when you don't do what you say you're going to do?

From the smallest household chores to the most monumental of promises, something happens when we fail ourselves.

A tiny ice pick comes out and begins to peck incessantly at our self worth, like so many ants carrying away the best bits of a cookie, crumb by crumb. The effect is so slow and pervasive we are often loathe to notice until there's nothing left of our glorious peanut butter oatmeal chocolate chip but an oil stain and a line of well-fed insects making their way out of the kitchen.

It's o.k. not to get to everything on your to-do list. But when you're constantly letting yourself down, letting yourself off the hook, putting things off til tomorrow, make no mistake, it's getting to you.

Sometimes we get all hung up on what we FEEL like doing. We convince ourselves we hate it so much that the guilt is better than doing what we know we must.

But is it?

When you fail, own it. When you start over, keep it realistic. The ants don't stop because they can only carry a crumb.
