“So, where are we going from here?” young reporter Grant Thompson asked the editor-in-chief of the Lofton County Free Voice, on the day the paper destroyed the comfort of Lofton County entirely. “How much more dirt does Lofton County have to dig up in terms of how it has treated our people?”

James Varick IV smiled grimly, his white teeth making a flash like lightning across his sable-colored face.

“If we wanted to do it, we could dig 400 years deep,” he said, “or, dig 400 years into the present moment in time. How exactly does a county under-count 12,000 people? The stories of the under- and un-counted would go on past our lifetimes. But, that is not exactly the point. The point, young man, is to hit like lightning.”

“What do you mean, Mr. Varick?”

“The atmosphere of this nation has been poisoned from the beginning. The Founders wrote lofty words of freedom for themselves and their posterity while they and theirs dared to daily beat, rape, murder, and work to death millions of other human beings -- our African ancestors. All the lies told to justify that from then to now have choked life out of the souls of our people even if they survived the daily brutality.

“We must have fresh air, for your generation and that of your future children – and so, we strike as the lightning does, with power to burn up the lies and expose the truth in Lofton County, and, occasionally, to strike and cause or assist the toppling of institutions and people once falsely held as great. The thunder of the Free Voice is loud, – but we are not making noise just to be making it. We are clearing the air in Lofton County – and we are clearing space for you and your future children to fully share in all the wealth in this county that our ancestors set down the foundation for. That is what we are doing, and where we are going.”

Grant Thompson smiled.

“I'm glad you trusted me to let me be part!”

“Young man, what is for you is for you all the way!”

I am so happy that you got a little bit better payout on this one!!

Thank you -- it was a nice surprise! I write because it is what I do, but, it is always a nice surprise to do a little better, especially now that Steem is working its way up again suddenly!

And hence, why I would never bother to vote, even if I ever was in a position when I could. The system is rigged against all the people who are not rich, regardless of color.

Here is your next prompt:

Thank you for the next prompt -- got it done, parts one and two ...

"Oatmeal"
The Continuation

As for voting ... yes, the system IS rigged, but, I find it of help to vote for those into whose faces I can get ... local and congressional ... you get results when folks know you are nearby to hold them accountable ...

As I was sharing with some folks on Facebook today -- although the history and continuing struggle of Black people is unique in America, the plain fact is that when any person of any race gets poor enough and cannot get out because of age or illness, they find out that much of this nation sees him or her as chattel to be moved about, experimented on, and eventually eliminated by various means since he or she is now judged as having no other value and is taking up resources that could be plowed into "the better sort's" profits, to put it in James Madison's own terms in the Federalist Papers no. 10. That particular slave owner andauthor of the Constitution truly saw all those not of his class only as a threat, a threat to keep divided and weak so that men of his class could remain in charge and receive all the wealth they could extract from EVERYBODY -- he wrote that HIMSELF, and the only reason EVERYBODY doesn't feel it as much is because he was forced to add the Bill of Rights to the Constitution, with a proviso that further amendments could be made. Almost all the rights we take for granted are in the amendments that Madison did not see as necessary -- and even those do not account for YOU and ME, two women, one Black, having ANY rights! That is how the nation is HARD-WIRED. Still, I vote as a small part of a more robust work in my locale ... since it is there to use, I pull the lever, and then keep working ...

Very interesting, and I completely agree with you, @deeanndmathews. Check out the un agenda 21 and agenda 2030 for even more bad news. The loss of the us born population is actually a goal and expected. This is why all the immigration is not being stopped. I am very glad to be out of there and only wish my son would get out too.

I am aware of what you speak of ... grim truth. Because I know my call in life is to remain here and do what can be done for those even more vulnerable than myself at this time, I don't let it bother me, but, I do know ...
