Mrs. Della Scott had heard something in her husband's voice that had worried her, and so she came to headquarters at about 3:00pm. She came up on the elevator and Mrs. Thornton “hid her away” until she was able to slip her into a 20-minute gap between the commissioner's appointments.

“Della, what on earth are you doing here?”

“You sounded you needed fruit salad and a quick shoulder massage, and probably your emergency high blood pressure medicine.”

“Yes to all of the above – and I'm going to need a long, hot soak when I get home.”

“It'll be ready, Winfred.”

“Thank you, Della, my angel … sweeter than a mouthful of sugar cubes, and so much better for my health.”

Ms. Thornton smiled, and turned away, and permitted herself a moment of daydreaming … those shoulders of Captain Lee's looked like they were holding a lot of tension as well.

She's right ... Day 30.5 is up
