It's possible to add captions to images in markdown
I just looked this up, because I wasn't sure at first whether it could actually, in fact, be done at all. The biggest thing I see here in this community, along with everywhere else, and while for the majority of you, probably it doesn't matter too much, but would be nice if more people got into the habit of doing this. Doing what, you ask? Adding semantic descriptions and captions to images.
Markdown Syntax
The method is simple. Just type the following when placing an image: [semantic description of image(path to image)caption]. Done. If more folks did that, then more people in the community would be able to participate. I, for instance rely on images to be described for the simple reason that I'm visually impaired, and it's essentially the only way I will ever appreciate them in this moment in time. Another reason? If the image is blurry, and it's the only one available, a little description just helps everyone in general. I'm just asking for a bit of extra effort to be put into posts. Quality, does the steem blockchain ask for? Well, focusing on the essentials and taking time to make your posts accessible to as many as possible? That's quality. Not writing an essay. Anyways, thanks for listening, and hopefully I taught you something new. It's my job in the community, after all.
Good point, will try that out on my next post if I remember to do so.
I often use a text to speech thingie to "read" articles I am curious about, and one thing that annoys me there is when the "semantic image description" doesn't have a name, but instead an ultra-large number, as the computer voice will read the entire thing, essentially breaking the flow of the article.
So while we're at suggestions to the community for improving post quality: rename your dog picture to "dog.jpg" instead of 12894950383765932894740203_9384754.jpg - thanks! <3
I didn't think the final name actually mattered. You taught me something to. Old really be nice if that were required field.

Well your article has contributed to that learning effort. We're all still relatively new here, lots of people to come join steem in the years ahead ;)
It would be nice if that was implemented everywhere, though. After all, it is part of the web accessibility guidelines. Those aren't just for blind people, but for everyone.

It's basically a way to add text to an image, potentially describing what it is. Because you never know who's going to be reading your post. Someone might not be able to see it, like myself.
