'Harmony': Re-Defining the Future of Blockchain Scalability
The claims (and stakes) are high for Harmony; this is a team set on embracing the future they've set for themselves.. and the more I learn about the platform the more I am enticed by its possibilities. 10 Billion people being supported on a singular social media platform would be fantastic enough.. but creating breakthroughs in Ethereum, blockchain, and fintech technology while doing so is infinite cherries on top!
Believability and Scalability:
Is it believable that Harmony can create a space for 10 Billion all the while functioning properly in all areas?
In short yes, but it will take years to reach that level. Scalability is the primary frustration for developers at this point in time. Blockchains require nodes for power and scaling up the volume of any platform (to support an abundance of new users) will require some 'heavy lifting' in terms of hardware and hardforks (pun intended). Ethereum and EOS still linger in the background as their big brother Bitcoin still revels in the era of his prime... but do not sleep on these altcoins as much bigger and brighter worlds (than the ones we know) can be built upon them!
Security Measures.. As Foretold By the WhitePaper:
"...Harmony’s sharding process is provably secure thanks to the
distributed randomness generation (DRG) process which is unpredictable, unbiaseable,
verifiable and scalable. Harmony also reshards the network in a non-interruptive manner to
prevent against slowly adaptive byzantine adversaries."
In the most simple of terms, sharding seems to rearrange shards to nodes so that any would be intruder (or attacker of the blockchain system) would be incredibly confused (pun intended yet again) as to which shards to attack for an untimely 'shard takeover'. The plausibility of attacks is usually much higher in the infancy of platforms as they are more easily exploitable, that is why I look forward to Harmony's developments both in the social media space and in the phases of security they develop.. this will lead to resources that make sharding a superior security resource when future platforms built upon Eth.
Most Looking Forward To.. :
I'd say the enhancements in Networking along with the User Interface itself are what I'm most looking forward to. It is always interesting to see the leaps in aesthetic and capability when new (on chain) platforms come about. I see the website for Harmony is very unique and beautifully laid out, I'd expect similar in seeing the platform for the first time. I am impressed with the model and the forward focused thinking of the development team. They are thinking in Ethereum as Bitcoin may be archaic one day.. I believe the world has a place for all altcoins and cryptos but only time will tell in regards to that forethought..
