Nearly 30% of the internet uses Instagram, and out of the 400,000,000+ users, 60% return on a daily basis. Why do you think that is? All that’s needed to login and see what’s happening over with your friends and locally in the community is a minute of scrolling through pictures. Anything can be found in an instant and the app’s growing like never before. Over 40 BILLION photos have already been uploaded and a further 80 million are uploaded every single day. The app’s exponential growth quickly got Facebook’s attention and in 2012 they purchased it for a solid $1 Billion. Ever since then, things have gotten hectic and within the next few years Instagram could be one of the biggest powerhouses out of all the social media platforms.

What Businesses Can Utilize Instagram?

Instagram is best used when pages are B2C simply because there’s few businesses out on the platform and there’s better ones (such as LinkedIn and Google+) for B2B. Specific niches such as fashion, luxury, food, fitness and entertainment stand out big time and the engagement skyrockets when pages get large. Although any creative sub-niche or new niche will also succeed well, as all it takes is a loyal following and then the page will explode practically overnight. There’s two routes a business could take. Either go into something really saturated where it’s easy to grow at first, but then it’ll get more difficult as you will have a lot of competition, or you could go the opposite way. Choosing the latter will get easier as it goes, but finding the original audience will take quite some work. Fitness and Fashion brands can start out seemingly quickly, however conversions may take a long time if the brands aren’t marketed correctly. Completely new niches and sub-niches however may take off if just the right amount of word is thrown out there. No matter which route a business takes, it’ll still be much more simpler than most other platforms and the engagement trumps Twitter or Facebook.

The simplicity behind it. All one needs to do is upload a high quality photo, add a creative description and a few hashtags and that’s it. It’s more effective on the eyes than Twitter, and less work than Facebook. The app looks beautiful in comparison to the other platform giants and that’s a big deal. Why? Because most of today’s consumers will be looking at what they’d like to purchase on their phones and ipods. A quick tap of the finger will redirect the user to a landing page and from there the purchasing process can begin. Posting videos with the link to the site watermarked in them will also quickly add unique impressions. Unlike the others, managing an Instagram account could take as little 2 minutes daily. Of course the greater the page will grow, the more work that will need to be put into it, but it’s still nothing in comparison to a YouTube channel or a Facebook page.
