Intro

We all have lowered moods sometimes. It might be because of work, some fights we had with the people we care about, sometimes just because of the bad weather. If it's just a day or two when you feel worse, it's not tragic yet and proper self-care can help to manage the emotions and let you come back to your regular rhythm after some time. When the lowered mood is getting stronger, an overwhelming feeling that doesn't allow you to leave your bed remains with you for the weeks, you may have depression and need professional help.

I know what I'm writing about because I was fighting this disease twice already. The first diagnose of depression I got six years ago. I needed some medicine to get rid of it and I was also visiting a psychologist every week for a year to learn how to live normally again. Those visits helped me to understand that depression is an illness like every other, that it's all about the hormonal dysfunctions in the brain. I got the knowledge of how to analyze my own feelings better, how to rationalize fear while being in a blue mood, and finally, in the very last sessions of my therapy, how to recognize when the depression starts. It's very important because that disease likes to come back into our lives and in the earliest stadium, we have a bigger chance to stop it before it will change our lives into horror.

The second depression I got two years ago but it lasted only for a year. Also, I needed the medicine and the therapy but I already had some experience and knowledge gained during the first time. I knew that postponing the visit to the psychiatrist will make it only worse to cure, I knew how to express my feelings and be honest with people around about my needs and moods, which is very important, finally, I knew how to behave and, above all, how to take care of myself.

Even though curing depression without medicine in most cases is impossible, there are some small things that can help us support the treatment: sport, hobbies, proper diet, regular sleep and sometimes meeting with friends (if you don't have social anxiety, I do). I also enjoyed happy, positive music in the morning which was helping me to put my brain in the right direction. Once, I have asked all my friends to suggest to me some songs and videoclips which make them feel good and with their help, I have created the list which now I am sharing with you. Hopefully, it will help you to feel better when you will be needing it.

Positive songs and videos

Please, notice that the list is very personal. You like it or dislike will depend on your music preferences. I would be very happy if you could comment on this post with your suggestions of the happy songs - let's all work together to create the steemit positive songs playlist. I believe that with so many users from different countries and cultures, we could create a very impressive list and all discover something that we have never heard before.

1.Serotonina - Apraticos

That song was written by the husband of my good friend, Flavio. She felt very bad at that time and that was his way to cheer her up. The girl in the video clip is my friend, Kasia, who, just like me, left Poland a long time ago to travel around the world and she found a home, husband, and happiness in Brazil. The Song is in Portuguese.

2.Something about you - Elderbrook

That song was suggested by my friend, Radek. Music is not necessarily my favorite, but I love the video clip as it makes me want to join the dancing guys. I can assure you that most of the therapies don't look like that, unfortunately :)

3.Bla bla bla - Gigi D'Agostino

Maybe it's because of the sentiments (I was born in the late '80s and that song was on the tops of the lists when I was a child), but I love it. Justyna, my flatmate from the student times says that she loves it because of its simplicity. No need to spend millions of dollars on videos to make something funny. That clip was making us both, me and Justyna, watch it to the very last second when we were kids.

4.Time to smile - Xavier Rudd and Izintaba

Thanks to Roman, another friend from the University, we are moving to Australia and we can listen to the song by Xavier Rudd. I didn't hear about Xavier before so I have check other songs of his and many of them are political, say about the environment, human rights, spiritual. Roman was studying philosophy, so I guess that suggestion fits him very well :)

5.Two times - Ann Lee

Mainstream from the early '90s suggested by Kasia, a friend of my husband, ethnographer. Once again, maybe it's because of the sentiments, but I consider it very happy, energetic. It motivates me to leave the bed and start dancing immediately. My eyes are on the screen though because the video clip is very interesting as well. In that times videos were crucial - without them song couldn't be played on Viva or MTV and probably wouldn't become famous.

6.Go bananas - Little Big

Russian song for the Eurovision from a few years ago, suggested by my beloved friend, Dawid. I love it so much that when I hear it, I have to play it again at least twice times more. It's a masterpiece - it has rhythm, it has energy, good flow, it's funny... just check it and try to tell me that I'm wrong :D
Check other songs of them too - all are great.

7.Get up - Bingo Players

Very energetic song suggested by one of my closest friends, Kuba. The video clip is quite original, presents gangsta ducks that deal with the bullies. I am a person who values surrealism a lot, so I'm pretty sure Kuba has chosen it especially for me, knowing that I'll appreciate the humor.

8.In Hell I will be in a good company - The Dead South

Country song suggested by my friend Aga. Even though the video clip is not very dynamic (the violin guy is very handsome though, so I can watch it just for him), I do love the song. I enjoyed reading the comments under the youtube video. One of them says that someone listened to it on a high and the next day realized he ordered banjo on Amazon.

9.Yoghurt - Ylvis

The song is at the same time kind of yogurt recipe. Again, surrealism, this time suggested by my fantastic friend, Polish performer, and artist, Agnieszka. The accent of the singer is quite strong, it's because the band of these comedians comes from Norway.
I love also the "Mr. Toot" song of them. It's very Turkish and with a positive flow. You may want to check "intolerant" too which is a song about lactose intolerance.

10.Toast to our differences - Rudimental

Rudimental is a British band suggested by Matylda, a girl who I met on Couchsurfing - she stayed in my place while she needed the bed during her visit to Krakow. Chill, calm but positive song. I'm sure you will like it.

11.Potbelly - Freshlyground

A great video clip that shows how we all can live together, no matter how different we all are. It was recommended by Justyna, a friend who organized with me few charity contests in the past. I believe the video clip is the strongest part of that position, but I like the song as well.

12.King - Grade

The band is from Canada. Don't expect pop this time - it's the electronic song, full of positive energy and themes from anime and video games. Great suggestion from Jakub.

13.Gimme Pizza

I'm eating more pizza than all my friends together so that position makes me smile as hell. There are tens of covers of this song, starting from caricatures, ending on psychedelic trans music. I am a big fan of the original version though.

14.Eat Pierogi - Me and the band

Song in English and Polish was performed by a British artist who wanted to perform in Eurovision a few years ago (If I'm not wrong, she wasn't selected though). The song is about pierogi dumplings, the most popular meal from Poland. It's very energetic, with a positive flow and, above all, the video clip is very colorful and artistic. For two years I didn't eat pierogi without that song turned on even once :)

15.Making pancakes - The Adventure Time

Speaking about food, another music clip worth recommendation is about the pancakes. It's basically some mix of the line from my favorite cartoon, Adventure Time, and sounds from pop music. I could describe it better, but I will leave some mystery to keep it surprising. The song is very short but worth watching.

16.Clap your hands - Parov Stelar

Agnieszka took care of my good mood by sharing with me that rockabilly/electro-swing song. I did dance modern jazz and lindy hop for a while, so that's definitely my type of music. In fact, I have made a pause in writing this post to dance a bit right now.

17.Pendulum Slam

Electro music is not my thing anymore. Maybe 10 years ago, when I was spending more time in the clubs, but not anymore. I do like to come back with y thoughts to that moments though. That song is great because not only allows me to come back in time to the moments when I was able to eat anything and never get fat, but also because it has a very body-positive video clip. I would like to dance as well as the recorded guy, and most importantly, to be brave enough to not worry about the other's opinion at all.

18.New Bibi Hendl - Takeo Ishi

Asian yodeling and singing in German between the chickens, plus simple Casio music? What to not love in it?! :D Tribute to my brain which loves the weirdest things this Universe hides. I love you, Internet!

19.Think About Things -Daði Freyr

The performers are from Iceland. I love them so much! I don't know how it is possible that the country with such a small population could give us Bjork and Dadi Freyr and surprise us all with such different, but equally great talents.

20.Tous Les Memes - Stromae

Even though the words of that song are not too positive, musically it's a masterpiece, so I love to have it on my list and come back to it every time I'm in a bad mood. Stromae is a Belgian artist who comes from Rwanda. He was born in Etterbeek, the district of Brussels where my mother lives now.

21.Sing, sing, sing - Benny Goodman

The oldest song on the list and personally, my favorite. It was the first dance at my wedding. I do love swing, like I mentioned before, I was practicing lindy hop and solo jazz dance, so it's the sounds that are moving my heart deeply and making my blood circulate in the body faster. Love it, love it, love it!

22.You are the two - the Roches

I think it's my favorite song about polyamory. Country music with a great tempo, fantastic vocal and positive words about the lady who takes care and love two men. The Roches was a US band made by three sisters of Irish origin. They were performing very unconventional songs, a bit comedian, always surprising. It's worth checking other songs of them.

23.Tanta Musica - Juanito Ayala

We are moving to Chile. As I was living there a few years, many of my friends are coming from that country and, as the result, I received some suggestions which included Chilean positive music. Gaston has sent me the video clip which is making me smile every time I watch it. It's full of happy people, dancing on the streets, positive energy, and summer vibes. Definitely worth watching every morning to keep the serotonin on a high level the whole day.

24.You need to calm down - Taylor Swift

In few ways I'm unconventional and some people believe it gives them the right to present their strong, harmful opinions about me on the Internet. As a gay, polyamorous person I may be additionally exposed for the hate speech, but the fact is that on the Internet we all are experiencing hate sometimes. In that moments the song of Taylor Swift helps to keep the good mood like anything else. Besides, it's just an amazing video clip with so many personalities and pop art scenery that I couldn't stop watching it, even if I would try.

25. Calle13 / Residente

I'm pretty sure everyone in South America has heard about a Puertorrican Calle13 at least once in their lives, but in other parts of the world that band is totally unknown. I was amazed when I have heard their "Latinoamerica" for the very first time and I believe it should be unofficial hours of the continent because it's the masterpiece. I do love to listen to it every time when I am worried about money, to remind myself that there are much more important things in the world. Other songs of them are equally good.

I am publishing two songs - "Latinoamerica" which is truly beautiful and with a very important message and "Sexo" of Residente (singer from Calle13 in his separate music project) which is much less serious, funny, light, and optimistic.

Thank you for reading. I'm curious what are your favorite optimistic songs and video clips. Share it with us in the comments.

With love,
