The martian is a science fiction movie starring Matt Damon. In 2035, during a mission to Mars, astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) who is a mechanical engineer and botanist, is left for dead and his companions decide to leave, leaving him alone on Mars. He manages to survive alone on that planet with the few resources he had. He improvises a field of crops, with Martian soil fertilized with vacuum-packed crew excrement, water made by extracting hydrogen from hydrazine, a leftover rocket fuel, oxidizing it by combustion, and potatoes reserved for a Thanksgiving meal.
