Easy work - hard money | Hard work - easy money

One of the things you can notice a lot on Steemit and on all kind of similar websites is the amount of people willing to work only on easy things hoping to get rich doing what they do. They create small articles no one really cares about, design packages that aren't useful to anyone, small scripts that don't do much, and all kind of easy to do things.

Because of that most of those people don't make as much money as they want to and some of them aren't getting anything for their work. I thought about that for a while trying to understand the reason behind it and how I can avoid that situation, and I got to the simple conclusion that whenever you focus on easy work, it's gonna be really hard to make money.

Easy or simple work means spending a few minutes a day doing something not really important that doesn't help anyone with anything. For example, getting on Steemit and posting "news" everyone can find in a few seconds using Google, or publishing articles featuring all kind of known quotes on Medium.

Those kind of things are extremely easy to do and don't require more than a few minutes a day. You get on Google, you search for what you need and you just create one of those articles. The thing is that those people hardly receive anything for their "work". No one really cares about what they do and despite their efforts, they don't get any money.

On the other hand, the people who do exactly the opposite are in a completely different spot. Those who are willing to work really hard and spend a lot of time creating something amazing usually get a lot of rewards without them expecting it. One example that I mentioned in the article I published right before this one would be the creators of Cuphead and Stardew Valley.

They started working on something years ago, and they kept working until they finally finished their projects. Cuphead is a game that recently appeared and took over the internet making everyone on YouTube play it, while Stardew Valley is an older game that had the same impact on the online world and was (and still is) played by thousands of people.

If you think about how much work those people invested into creating those amazing games, you'll realize that not every person out there would be willing to do the same for any amount of money. Three people created Cuphead in 7 years, and only one person created Stardew Valley in 4 years. It's an incredible amount of work, and one would ask "was it worth?"

It was for sure. Both games were purchased a lot of time during the past years (or in Cuphead's case, weeks) and I'm sure there are still a lot of people who buy them because they are curious to try them or just want to support the developers. No matter the case, the people who worked on those two games got more rewards than most independent developers only dream of.

This is how the world works and it's been like this for a long time. Those who spend little time working and trying to make money really fast usually don't get what they want. Most of them spend years working without getting anything in return until they either give up or realize that's the wrong way to make money.

The people willing to work really hard and to create amazing content are the ones who usually get huge rewards, because no matter what others say, serving the consumer is what really matters, and when you're willing to spend a lot of time working just to give people something amazing, that's when those people will be willing to reward you for what you did for them.

Sort:

the people posting the copied stuff will get a couple of cents but no more for their entire steemit career (excluding self upvotes of course)
but the ones posting the original content will get only a few cents in the beginning but their earnings will gradually rise along with followers and reputation. But in the beginning both look the same, that is where the effortless posters get confused and that is why they fill the feed with nonsense

Amazing comment!

Now I realize that a lot of people who could create amazing content sometimes feel like those who put 0 effort in creating posts for Steemit because they get the same rewards, more or less, and because the effortless posters sometimes make more money, mainly because they were here longer, it makes others think their hard worked content isn't worth upvoting so they just start posting low quality stuff as well.

Thanks for the comment! :)

This reminds me of the Jerzy Gregorek quote "Hard choices, easy life. Easy choices, hard life." If you haven't listened to Jerzy on Tim Ferris' podcast there are some gems in there:

Bonus: it also features Naval Ravikant!

Thanks for the thoughtful post!
