Who are you?

My name is Eunice Baguma Ball, a Ugandan entrepreneur living in the UK. I'm the founder of the Africa Technology Business Network (ATBN), a social enterprise that works to support African start-ups & entrepreneurs to build innovative businesses that positively impact the continent. We run entrepreneurship programmes such as #HerFutureAfrica, which we launched in Ghana last year, and provides training, support and mentorship to young female entrepreneurs.

Describe your latest project

My latest project is a book called Founding Women, which is a collection of interviews with African women building successful businesses in technology. I interviewed 20 amazing women originating from 13 African countries about their entrepreneurship journey and their experiences navigating the male-dominated world of tech. One of them is Farida Bedwei from Ghana who shares her inspiring story of overcoming disability to become a leading software engineer and entrepreneur.

What inspired it?

Some months ago I typed the words ‘tech entrepreneur’ into Google and the results showed images of mostly white men. It saddened me to think that a young African girl might someday search for ‘how to become a tech entrepreneur’ and get the same results. Sadder still when I realised it may not even cross her mind to do so because she’d never been presented with role models to show her it’s possible. That's how I came up with the idea to create a book highlighting African female entrepreneurs in tech to inspire and show young women that it's possible.

What are you planning next?

All proceeds from the book will go towards our #HerFutureAfrica programme supporting young female entrepreneurs. The plan is to raise as much funding as we can to enable us expand the programme to other African countries.

Where can people take action and find out more?

Get yourself, your friends, your neighbours, a copy of the book! Not only will you be inspired, get practical advice and nuggets of wisdom from these stories, you will also help to the next generation of young women who are building Africa's future. amazon.

Let the African woman rise. It's now time to take our continent's future into our own able hands. All the best to her!

Its high time we empower African women to go higher heights and be successful in their business. Very soon we will see African owning big enterprises. Thanks for letting us know what African women are doing. I hope successful Ghanaian women too will take up this initiative to empower women.

I'm proud of African women now. It's time to fight for our continent.
