Why you should use your witness vote to support @yensesa

So for a while now we have been asking our followers to vote for us as one of their witnesses on steemit, but we never truly took the time to explain to our followers exatly what a Steem Witness is and why you should vote for us as on!
Todays the day we unpack what it means to be a witness and why you should care.

You may be aware that all cryptocurrencies need a way to create consensus on their blockchains and for many this is done through a process called mining. Steem reaches consnsus by having some users maintain the blockchain on servers they own; This person is called a "Witness."

All blockchains require a number of users create blocks to reach a consensus; in Steemit the mechanism is called delegated proof of stake, or DPOS as we like to call it. The 'witnesses' are voted for by the community and given the authority to act as the networks governance body. There are many witnesses but only the top 20 witnesses get to produce a block. there is also a 21st position which is shared by backup witnesses. the backups are scheduled proportionally to the amount of votes they have. this DPOS process makes a witness the equivalent of a miner on other blockchains.

This DPOS model of witnesses instead of miners creates more efficient block production. Unlike BTC where 100% of the newly mined coins are allocated miners, the Steem blockchain only gives 10% of new coins to witnesses. Meanwhile the other 90% of new STEEM/SP gets awarded to users who produce content, and curators.

Any member can be a witness all it take is an understanding of the steem blockchain protocol and server side setup. these are somewhat advanced concepts but quite easy to learn and well worth it in the long term.

To be a witness you must:

run a stable and reliable witness node on a server to avoid missing blocks.
publish the STEEM/USD price daily.
run a seed node to help distribute the blocks (optional).
run a back-up server for the witness node (optional)

To be a successful Witness you must market to the community in order to get their votes and show how you will give back to the Steem community so that it incentivizes a vote from them.

Our witness will allow us to Give back to the community that supports us via:

delegations to promising members (when we have enough sp).
helping fund projects like @yensesa and @accra.
up-vote authors and curators in our community.
marketing Steem to potential users across Ghana.
building a community basic income with #yensesapower

It doesn't cost you anything to vote for a witness nor does it lower your voting power like voting on posts or comments does. You also have a lot of space for choice because every user on can vote for up to 30 witnesses. I looks like only 5% of users have voted now so we must make sure the other 95% know about it; so resteem this post! Your vote can be changed any time you want, there is also the option to set a proxy user you trust to vote for you.

We need your vote to climb the rankings and get more Steem/ Steem Power which can help pay for our server costs. Without you supporting us, there is no @yensesa witness and it will be harder for us to support you! you voting will help prevent drop out because of the server fees. Steem also needs as many witnesses as possible to help ensure the stability and speed of the blockchain. together as we grow we can really work together as a team to help improve Steemit!
