Protesters Call For US Government To Abandon Their Efforts To Prosecute Julian Assange

in #wikileaks6 years ago

Ecuador is allegedly under huge pressure from the United States government to evict Julian Assange from their embassy. This is the location that Assange has been living in for 6+ years in London.

Assange has previously been granted asylum from the government of Ecuador. However, now the president, Lenin Moreno, says that Assange cannot stay there forever. It's been alleged that president Moreno has been in contact with the British government in order to discuss the possibility of how to end Assange's stay at the embassy.

Now, Assange might leave the embassy to appear before a US Senate Committee.

Just this week, Sen. Rand Paul suggested that if Julian Assange were to testify before lawmakers in the U.S., regarding an investigation into the publication of some previous data that had been released on WikiLeaks, that he should be left alone with regard to prosecution. Sen. Paul suggested that Assange should be given immunity.

Assange might have information relating to the hacking of Democratic emails, which Paul says that it would be nice to uncover.

"The US Senate Select Committee request confirms their interest in hearing from Mr Assange,... The inquiry has asked for him to appear in person at a mutually agreeable time and place. We are seriously considering the offer but must ensure Mr Assange's protection is guaranteed." - Assange's lawyer Jennifer Robinson said on Thursday.

Protesters gathered this week to call for the US to abandon their prosecution efforts against Julian Assange.

It's a call which many around the world no doubt support. Petitions that have made requests for his freedom to be restored have managed to gather tens of thousands of signatures.

Wikileaks and the information that it has helped to share with the world, which revealed various state misdeeds over the years, has continually worked to erode the reputations of governments and their agents worldwide. And where some see a criminal, that heads a supposedly hostile intelligence service, others see a champion of liberty and peace who has made incredible sacrifices to expose injustices that otherwise might never have been uncovered.

I don't know about Aassange, but I definitely believe that Edward Snowden dhould be pardoned and allowed to re-enter the USA unmolested!

They both helped the world know about important information that was being kept from the public by governments. In that, they are both (non-conventional) heroes. I hope they both gain their freedom of movement back, but I acknowledge that it is not likely and that it won't be easy.

That's true. I doubt that the government ever forgets, but anyone who speaks the truth is truly a hero ( I have a special love for Snowden is all :-)

Heres more info on the wilileaks pizzagate rabbithole and if it's true....

I don't think other people can't do anything about if the government wanted to get Assange @doitvoluntarily

He have white hair long time ago because the persecution and they still didn't up until today? pfff this goberment...
