Whales and Others: Their Behavior On Full Display

in #whales6 years ago

My writing, of late, is centered around the new paradigm which includes a new way of thinking. It is based upon abundance and concern for others as opposed to scarcity, hatred, and fear. Therefore, it pains me to write this post.

That said, it is interesting to watch a bunch of anarchists, free thinkers, humanity lovers, and de-centralization zealots operate in a way that would make the banksters and their minnions on CNN and FoxNews proud. No wonder these people can control the masses, we are so easy.

People act emotionally and justify logically.

We are mostly at the whim of our emotions. The media and advertisers know this. If this were not the case, nobody would buy a vehicle that depreciates $3,000 the second you drive it off the lot. Who would lose 10%-20% willingly in a matter of minutes? People who buy cars based upon emotions and not facts, that is who. Of course, they will give you all the reasons why they bought later. It is no different than someone who gets in a bad relationship justifying how wonderful he is when he isnt. Of course, 6 months later, the emotion is gone and he is nothing but a jerk.

Why do I bring all this up?

Yesterday, we saw exactly what I am talking about on full display. We had a bunch of people riled up which led to a dowvoting rampage against @haejin along with a ton of accusations.

Therefore, I decided to look into what was said and done to point out the behavior which exemplifies how people aced being students of the banksters. Their training was perfect.

Before I get started, I will say I have no idea if @haejin is running a giant scam or who this @ranchorelaxo is. I can only go based upon what I see and observe.

Again, I am trying to point out the behavior which is reflective of the mindset.

So, let us look at some of the reasons people use to justify the downvoting brigade they went on.

He is taking up too much of the reward pool, thus we should downvote him.

This is a truthful statement. At one point yesterday, @haejin was listed as earning over 6% of the reward pool. Obviously, this much of the pool going to one person is excessive. Hence, the need, in the view of many, to downvote.

Why downvote? "To reduce his share of the reward pool".

WTF????? Do you understand how the reward pool works?

The reward pool is static on a given day. Whatever the amount of SP allocated that day is shared. Each person's take is based upon the voting of the entire ecosystem on that day which includes number of votes, VP, and percentage of VP used on each vote. In totality, the pool is then divided up.

"Yes, hence the need to downvote".

No, incorrect. There is no need to downvote when one person has too much of the reward pool.

Instead of doing that, why not take your 10 votes at $150 or $200 apiece and upvote 10 different people?

That move dilutes the share of the reward pool by the same $1500 or $2000 PLUS someone else profits. But no, lets harm another because we think he is playing games.

His Analysis Is A Scam

I stated in a comment yesterday, EW is a debatable subject. In fact, all of TA is subject to debate. However, most of the one levying the scam attacks wouldn't know a wave from a dow theory from a candlestick. Nevertheless, let takes a look at some of this "scam" analysis.

This is an image taken off blocktivity.info at 10:45 EST today. Please look at number 4 and notice the price...63 cents.

Here is a chart from a post @haejin put up around 7 AM EST. Notice the time on the chart is just before 7....

Are you kidding me? This scammer called a 50% move a few hours before it happened. What a con man he is.

I would be curious how many of his attackers could make a call like this.

Here is the full post:

https://steemit.com/money/@haejin/bitshares-bts-update-vertical-price-move-imminent

Maybe he got lucky. The problem with that idea is from observing him over the last 4 months,I would gues his calls are correct about 80% of the time. Nevertheless, he is a scammer.

He is a Spammer

This is a good one. He should be downvoted because he is posts too much. Anyone who does that deserves a downvote.

To start, if he was a spammer do you think he would have 5800+ followers? How many spammers do that?

Also, it isnt as if he tit for tat since he is only following 380....

Here is an article mentioning how he went from 3000 to 4000 in a little over a week.

https://steemit.com/milestones/@scarlet7/haejin-goes-from-3000-to-4000-followers-ten-days-something-big-is-happening-over-here-come-and-see-for-yourself

Which brings up the next point: look through the comments on his posts. He has 5,000 followers, many asking for analysis their preferred coin. There are over 1,300 coins and I bet, in a week, he gets asked about well over 100.

So what the downvoters are saying is that he shouldnt give his followers what they request? Is that what people are really saying, ignore your followers?

He doesn't write anything in his posts.

So what, should he write the epic Gone with the Wind? You downvote him because he doesnt meet some word criteria?

You ever hear a picture is worth a thousand words?

The chart I put up, we are here at 44 cents, we are going to 62 cents....what words are need for that. Where we are and where we are going is the only thing his followers care about. If they wanted words, they would go the to literature section.

By the way, I guess we should downvote all those posts in the photography section....not enough words.

He is taking his SBD and moving it out.

Again, that is worthy of a downvote barrage?

Isn't it his money? Should he be able to move it out if he wants or should he have to keep it in?

Of course, if one took the time to learn the facts, for months @haejin has been taking the SBD he makes from his posts and rolling buying Bitshares with it...or that is what he stated in one of his posts a couple months back.

I guess something that was taking place for months is suddenly a useful tool for guilt....You have to love tyranny.

So the justifications for the behavior is proven false yet many engaged in this behavior. They got themselves in an emotional frenzy because someone was taking too much of the pie. Wow, that is scarcity thinking. Then, the personal attacks came out without an ounce of evidence, in fact, there is a mountain of evidence to disprove most of the attacks.

You want to see the level this reaches: I saw someone post that he felt ranchorelaxo deserved the benefit of the doubt since he was a long-time inactive whale. Guess what happened? Within seconds this comment was downvoted out of sight. This individual wasn't posturing a defense for anyone, simply calling for cooler heads. And he got zapped.

Here is my question: What happens if a whale takes a liking to your posts and decides to upvote you at full strength? What happens when your posts go from $20 to $150? Do you want to be on the firing line and part of the witch hunt? Maybe you should avoid posting quality content or stuff that people will like to avoid that situation.

Is this really the atmosphere we want around here? I mean seriously, do some want their STEEM to go back to 6 cents apiece?

Certainly downvoting has its place. If someone is posting Enlarge Your Penis or 1% Mortgage Ads all over the place, I hope people downvote that out of existence. That is what it is meant to do. However, what took place was nothing like that.

Witch hunts, downvotes, abuse of power, emotional frenzies, and verbal assaults....

All I can say is Jamie Dimon is very proud.

And by the way, how do you feel about blasting out 20 downvotes in 60 seconds only now to realize everything you thought was incorrect?

Some days it just isn't easy to be a puppet.

Whatever your amount, SP provides a certain amount of power and it is disappointing to see so many blatantly abuse that power.

If you found this article informative, please upvote and resteem.

I have seen the dispute but I prefer to stay away from that crowd. I do not support what they do, they are a nest of socialists, many of them even call themselves anarchists but ironically they want to control everything.

They are a version of the SJW in Steemit, quite unpleasant and immature, they really do not care or improve the community or earn money, they are only interested in having a little bit of power, that is why they punish and do not advise or recommend, or anything, they are a kind of gang members.

You seemed to have nailed it @vieira.

Perfectly nailed it. It doesn't end there. If you dig through my ~100+ comments on last 2 days you'll see that I've brought up the fact that some are most likely trading based on @haejin's calls while bashing him.

Yes, I have seen a couple of your comments in @haejin's post, discussing with some pseudo-anarchists/socialists.

Somebody needs to slap https://mises.org/library/human-action-0 on these people's faces. But they don't seem be the reading type. I'm really disappointing to see anit-laissez-faire on steemit. Some people don't even understand that the NAP is a non-negotiable absolute axiom. They think it's also just another feeling. I could face desk my laptop into pieces.

That's right, I'm keeping track, I already lent the book "liberalism" by Von Mises to two socialists that I know in person, and both of them returned it to me without reading it. Obviously these people are still socialists, because they are still ignorant in the matter. They can not even understand how the socialist impossibility, due to the error in the economic calculation ..

They don't normally learn anything from their mistakes. You should have tried some interviews by higher-ups in Pol Pot's regime on YouTube. The primary function of justice is prevention of Aggression and acting as a deterrent against aggressors. Since high school I've considered the current global situation as a war for power. It should be fought as a war. Only force works against force. The only path we can take is castration of the authoritarian's power.

Basically I just read Fountainhead and thought there is one notch higher and then came across John Galt only to be a tad disappointing. IMO he was a bit too naive. Most of these haters and lairs tend to suspect and accuse successful people and tries to fit everything they do into an evil scheme. Lair's punishment is that they become unable to trust others. For good people, the opposite is true.

One needs to know both the Yin and the Yang or one's actions will become misguided regardless of intent.

Also allow me to recommend you Psycho-Pass. My profile pic is from that and it was available on Netflix and Hulu (when I checked some time ago). It's a real masterpiece and even relevant to the discussion.

I'm new to Steemit, but I looked on a bit from the sidelines. And I have to say, your analysis seems spot on.

I've had some experience with these types of people (let's call them SJW's, sure, why not) in my daily life as quite an outspoken person about social issues, mostly men's rights. I won't go further into details, because they are not relevant for this exact issue.

Point is however, I have noticed that some people just can't handle any success that, in their eyes, seems undeserved. They will go any length to discreted the person they don't agree with. At some point they are beyond arguing the point, but about yelling slogans and eventually applying backhanded power plays to try and get what they want.

That is, just like you said, because this isn't about what's best for Steemit. But about who gets to call the shots. They see everything (and I mean everything) as part of a power structure. They are the real authoritarians, the real dictators hiding in the shadows. All in the name of 'the greater good'. It's disgusting.

Very accurate my friend. Proud to have followed you. These people need to read https://mises.org/library/human-action-0
or......
Fountainhead

Haven't read that one, although I own it. Really enjoyed "Atlas Shrugged" though, and gave dozens of copies of "The Anthem" to family one year a while back. Would have given "Atlas Shrugged" as I liked it better, but at over a thousand page I figured I'd go with something that they might read.

You know, nobody ever said thanks or discussed it. Oh well, we have to try...

I found "Atlas Shrugged" to be a lesser book. It is of course the second greatest work of modern literature. But The Fountainhead made me shake. I sometimes read during my meals and one day I couldn't even eat my food properly as my hands were shaking too much because of the sheer intensity of the novel. It has not happened before or since.

Also Fountainhead gave me much more laughs than Atlas Shrugged (I have a peculiar sense of humor as I found Sherlock S3 EP1 first 15 mins to be funnier than the entire length of Deadpool.)

Atlas Shrugged was actually started out as a way to explain what Fountainhead was all about in the first place and IMO it showed. It's the single most intense book ever written to my knowledge.

Nice, thanks! It's somewhere in storage right now but I'm now more motivated to dig it out.

Or, just get it for the Kindle. :)

exactly!!
I always read their posts but never comment..they are pathetic hypocrites

Well said. I feel the exact same way. One of the users is even named Bernie Sanders...as if they weren't socialist enough.

Not "one of the users", but its supreme leader.

Interesting and well structured read. If only I truly grasped all the voting complexities and was a whizz at analysis I would be able to, intelligently, enter the debate! New to Steemit I have lots to learn. Reading your post made me sad for humanity. It appears to me that this fella @haejin is doing his thing, sharing his knowledge and adding value to the community. I have been reading his posts for several weeks and whilst much of the nuance is lost on me I fancy that alot of what he says is solid and could be helping others protect/accumulate/invest intelligently. I am an artist/writer/lightworker and it appears that baser human emotion and actions were displayed yesterday. Why are so many humans jealous of others success? Why do folks feel the need to judge? As you say we live in an abundant universe where there is enough for all to be comfortable. Fear of scarcity is a common fear but surely we should celebrate each others success and show gratitude. I invite you to pop by mine if you have a spare mo; I feel some of my work may resonate with you :) Seasons greetings all xox PS love all the intelligent comments, most informative, thanks.

Thank you for your kind words.

Here is a 100% upvote @Idacey-laforge to help you along your way on this path...

Please keep it up.

Gee thanks awfully and blimey that's a big vote you have there ;) xox

I've made a lot of money trading his posts. Most if not all of his SBD has gone into BTS. You can see it in his wallet on BitShares (haejin1970) the guy has bought 232,000 BTS in the past 6 months. Some only like the free market if it is working for them.

I also have followed him and like his TA. one of the best.

I admit @matthewwarn, I am not much of a trader..more a buy and hodl guy.

That said, I do glance at his posts on the coins I have just out of curiosity. He is an accomplished EW guy from what I can see...one of the better ones I found.

I have no problem with debates on the merits and demerits of EW or any other TA...but to launch attacks about his analysis without any clue about it tends to go over the edge.

I give him credit, few to none make a 50% up call a few hours before it happens (not without insider info anyway).

I truly don’t understand the attacks against him either. It seems like jealousy coming out and it’s been ugly. I think if there are true concerns about revenue sharing distribution, there is a much better way to handle it. As a fairly new user here, it’s not very welcoming or a good sign of things to come.

Seems even decentralized technologies and platforms can't be free of jealousy and mob mentality.

Most complains say that he earns too much. There is no such thing as earning too much or deserving something. Nobody should be balancing out box office results because Star Wars is getting most of the ticket sales.

You know as well as I do, @techwizardry, technology moves a lot quicker than human behavior.

Technology changes, humans resist change.

I have no idea what happened up there in the stratosphere, but down here in the pollywog ponds, we would just like to see more exposure... You talk about a $20.00 post going to $160. but the majority are getting 20cent posts... How do we get up when nobody sees our stuff?

My suggestion is always the same @dawg-boy....

Comment...comment...comment....

That is how one A) gets some followers and B) can gain some SP because people often upvote in the comment section.

There are times when I will see a comment or two get more $ in upvotes than the article (and these are some popular articles). I think my personal record is $11 on a comment.

I am a commenter, I have a lot to say... Also, Apparently you have to reach a certain level to downvote? is that right? I have never seen any option to downvote a post in my year here...

Its that little flag.

Excellent article, and I completely agree with the notion of having an abundance mindset versus one of scarcity.
It is true that emotion precedes logic. It's how one applies their logic following emotion that determines whether it acts to channel that energy in a beneficial way, or merely justifies the emotion in a way that causes harm.
The paradox is that when logic controls emotion properly, an abundance mindset is fostered within the individual. But when logic is applied to justify and so give free reign to emotion, a scarcity mindset often is the result.

I agree with what you say, I saw all that bullshit and I was like woah stay away from that! Who really knows what is going on anyways. The Steemit community is awesome, and we should really keep our heads cool and peaceful to keep it that way. The community can police itself, but it will have some bumps for sure!

Witch hunts and downvoting campaigns and downvoting things that you just dont agree with are lame and pretty stupid, and the drama reminds me of facebook tbh.

We can give feedback though, and I hope many people see this post so they can see what might be really going on.
There is more then enough to go around!

I agree. Keep on keepin' on!

Oh wow... I had no idea any of this was going on.

I can't believe such games have followed us here onto the Steem blockchain. All we want to do it create and interact with other creators and consumers... now people have to play the politics and create good content but not too good else it'll be voted down. That's pretty nasty.

I'm glad I don't really see behind the curtain too often... but surely there are way more problems on this platform than poor @haejin doing too good a job.

Does anyone know how the flagging system works? Does one flag mean that no money of that post goes to the creator or does one flag undo one vote?

I'm not sure what to think either. There's so many crap posts that get hundreds of dollars that I'm not sure why they're singling @haejin out when other whales have been doing it for months (years!). Maybe it's because @haejin is newer and up and coming, and not sitting well with the old guard?

Though on the flipside, I've also read some things from the other camp which does raise some questionable issues. And I must admit that I liked it a lot when he was getting $1-2 per post, but getting 200-300 per post multiple times is really a lot.

I have this same problem with all the posts complaining about @haejin too though. The latest 'complain about @haejin' post now as $750 as rewards. Isn't that equally damaging to the reward pool?

I would like it if we would simply cap the rewards to a maximum. With the size of our community now, I don't feel like anybody is producing enough valuable content to warrant hundreds of dollars of earnings day.

But, I fear we'll just have to learn to deal with it. I have long ago given up caring all that much about maximizing earnings or worrying that others are making a lot more. It's pointless frustration.. better to just have a little bit of fun, make some friends, and if you make some money in the process see that as an extra bonus.

I don't feel like anybody is producing enough valuable content to warrant hundreds of dollars of earnings day.

Feelz doesn't make it right. What other people are earning is nobody's business. This is the same mentality that says nobody deserves to be a billionaire. Whether intended or not; this is commie speak. It's not the foundation of communism. But it's what comes right after the foundation. We can't run the world with feelz.

Non-Aggression-Principle is sacrosanct.
Aggression is wrong.
Might doesn't make anything right.
Anything that doesn't violate NAP isn't wrong and shouldn't be acted against.
Force can only be countered with equal or greater force.
Anybody has the right to agrees against the first breach of NAP as long as the following aggressions doesn't far exceed the original aggression.

Feelings are not valid reasons or excuses. People voluntarily upvoted and a flag is an aggression on all of those who decided to upvote.

Isn't your counter argument based on 'feeling that what people are earning is nobody's business' a 'feelz' too?
In every country in the world, down to the most capitalist ones, you will find rules and regulations that limit the amount of income or power of those who have the most. It has nothing to do with communism or philosophy. It's a simply that the market cannot survive if the majority falls into one or a few parties. It is for this reason that monopolies, for example, are prohibited, even in capitalist countries.

If we apply your logic to monopolies, then we should simply allow them to exist because those are what people spend their money on and nobody should interfere what they are earning.

I'm not saying the logic is flawed, but I do think there are more nuances than black/white

Regulation kills competition and is most often used to benefit big corporations (whales), and if you think there are no monopolies in capitalist countries then you need to study up on business economics.

Your arguments are weak at best.

There are no capitalist countries. Places like Singapore, HK, Switzerland, Estonia, Monaco comes close.

“The masses do not like those who surpass them in any regard. The average man envies and hates those who are different.”
― Ludwig von Mises, The Ultimate Foundation of Economic Science

“It is vain to fight totalitarianism by adopting totalitarian methods. Freedom can only be won by men unconditionally committed to the principles of freedom. The first requisite for a better social order is the return to unrestricted freedom of thought and speech.”
― Ludwig von Mises, Omnipotent Government

Eh.. I welcome discussion, but your closing remark kind of kills any motivation I have to respond, sorry

'feeling that what people are earning is nobody's business' a 'feelz' too?

Absolutely not. It's called the Non-Aggression-Principle. It's a natural right and an axiom. One's right to swing his stick stops at the other person's nose. Period.

I recommend reading https://www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/89275.Fr_d_ric_Bastiat

If you are willing to read at least the quotes in those links, it'll save me a lot of time.

You bring up very valid points @pandorasbox.

What is sad is that a post complaining gets $700 while one espousing what @fulltimegeek, @stellabelle, and @steevc did by delegating their SP gets a fraction of that.
