Oil extraction process in an oil well.

Oil is the most widely used source of energy today, most vehicles today run on gasoline, and those that do not run on gas or electricity. The oil is originally found beneath the surface of the earth, to extract it a drill is needed to drill the earth and connect a series of pipes to reach the depth where the oil field is located, once it reaches that depth the pressure of the gas makes the oil come to the surface.

The drill hole leaves a well that can be controlled by valves, this is called a producing well and generally the oil extracted is guided by pipes to a plant where it is treated. When this series of pipes does not exist it is necessary to extract the well in a local tank and then to transport it in gondolas to the place where it will be processed. I was recently on a local tank oil project and that is the information I want to share with you today.

When the oil comes to the surface, it is accompanied by gas, it is necessary a container that is designed to separate the oil and direct it to the storage tanks, and by another pipeline the gas is directed to the burner, the gas must be burned to avoid risks. The tanks must be constantly monitored to prevent them from overflowing, so the oil extraction companies in charge of extracting the oil from the tanks are called to move it to another location.

My work there consisted in implementing the instrumentation for the control and monitoring of gas pressures and tank level.
