A walk through the Bosnia and Herzegovina hills -= Wednesday Walk =-

in #wednesdaywalk5 years ago (edited)

A few years ago I got the chance to go to the amazing country of Bosnia and Herzegovina. If you ever get the chance to go, you must! The people are awesome the the history in the former Yugoslavia is incredible. This amazing place has been through a lot. A lot more than a place ever should be. For me it was a amazing, eye opening experience. One place in particular I went was the old Olympic ski resort. It was made to host the Olympics but is a little different now a days.

High above Sarajevo, which is the capitol city of Bosnia is the resort. It was built for something special but turned into something else. Something that is still incredible but in its own kind of way.

Unfortunately it became a target and took on a different meaning from the word resort. It became a place of interested to many and many things came to this place to change it. Either through force, or with fire.

Now there is only a thin skeleton shell left of this once incredible place. A place that was built for incredible things but left to become something less incredible then it should have been.

For many different reasons the war took place and took this place with it. Bombs, shells, and fires came along with many people.

The memory is still here and the strength of the people remains. Many made it through the awful experience and even with scars that still remain the positive vibes and positive memories are the ones that stay.

Even after everything was all said and done, my jaw was on the floor, soot on my shoes, the positive people stand strong and remember this as a place to grow from...
This walk was from a few years ago but I have never had the chance to share it with everyone. I really wanted to share this as a memory for the determined, strong, and relentless people of this amazing country. Fallen but never broken.

I am saddened by the demise of the Olympic resort, such a sad tale. Beautiful pictures though, and I decided to feature you in this week's Pay it Forward Curation Contest - keep up the great work!

It is a sad scene to see so many awesome places get destroyed over nothing. I wish I could have seen it in full swing but at least we can remember the good times. Thanks a lot for the feature as well, you rock!

Very cool captures, sir! i see you are quite adventurous and go look for interesting subjects to shoot!

Congratulations on being featured by @vikinkg-ventures in an entry for the Pay It Forward Contest

Thank you, thank you! I will say there is nothing quite like a great adventure. I am glad you enjoyed :D

Such a sad story and a shame to see what has become of this once great place your photos are great and I really appreciate that you shared them with us.

Thank you, thank you. Yes this place is amazing and so are the people. I tell everyone that they need to go and check it out, you will not be disappointed.

I visited there a few times, we sometimes went up in Winter and skied up there, the views are amazing but so sad seeing all the damage
Cool shots brought back some nice memories of my time there, and the last shot, Bric taking shots on Bricks is so cool

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk !tip

PS I will be back to resteem in a little while

AHHHHH I am jealous you got to ski there! I am also glad you have been there. It is so refreshing to hear that people have traveled there. I feel like people are missing out on this amazing place because of old misconceptions. Thanks a lot though for having the #wednesdaywalk, this is honestly one of my favorite parts about Steemit now.

I loved my time me there spent about 18 months living in Sarajevo and saw a lot of the country which is so beautiful my wife well she was my girl frat the time joined me for the last month there before we moved to the states and our time there often comes up in conversations she loved it also

That is sooooo cool. You make me like you more and more which each cool story. I am a little jealous now haha. Did you get to check out the Pyramids while you were there?

I think someone pointed them out one day but it was snowing and visibility wasn’t ideal if I remember rightly there a bit of debate on them

Yea the debate is still out but we heard about them and that they were not being accepted as Pyramids but we ended up going and I am suspect on the decision. Areas that have been dug out, or were they dug down a little and there are flat stones, tile like underneath. Then on one side they have the big old sphere stones, almost perfectly round. We didn't go into the to Sun pyramid but I believe these really need to be research more. Going there changed my mind.

I did not go that close to see that from what you say it sounds like there may well be merit in the theory that they are pyramids

Wonderful pictures. A picture is worth a 1000 words. These tell a story. It is nice to hear that as a community they have rebounded.

You were featured in week 53 of @pifc's Pay It Forward Curation Contest by @viking-ventures. @pifc is a Pay It Forward Community which believes in by helping others grow we build a stronger community. We run this contest each week, it is open to everyone. It's a great way to show off people you find that might need some more exposure or meet new people.

Thank you! I am glad I can spread a little story and some nice photos to go along.

It most defiantly would be. You should go! Trust me you won't be disappointed, even if you go just for the views.

Maybe we can accept the condition of that place now because we knewcwhat was happening there before, but still.. it would be wonderful if it is restoring to be a museum or something that hold the information of the past.
By the way @bricbric, did you find anything about the former pictures of this place before the damage? Thank you for sharing anyway... nice shots!

I found your post through @viking-ventures entry post in the pay it forward contest this week.

That would be awesome to turn it into a museum! I have seen some photos from before but some of it is being build back up. I should have thrown some of the befores on here. Maybe I will see if I can get my hands on some..

That would be nice Bric😉 for some peoplecwho never has been there like me, a hostory of a place always nice to read. Including the story about strong people who lives near the place too.

Enjoyable trips and very amazing..

Thank you :D Its a great place
