The fall of the Iron Curtain happened today in History.
On this day in 1989, the most inhumane symbol of the cold war called the Berlin Wall was brought down allowing travel from East to West Berlin after 28 years.
The periods the wall was up was a time when the old communist leadership was in power and everything was done with fear.
It was also a terrible time for many because many where caught on the wrong side of the wall and could not go visit their families and for 28 years they waited and prayed for the Cold War to end.
It was the agitation of the people that brought about a shift in power and the government of Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, finally saw it come to reality.
The destruction of the Iron Curtain as it was popularly referred to which was televised live, marked a significant time in the history of the Soviet union.
