I think you put your finger on it when you discussed the two-faced vocabulary used by speakers of the English language when they talk about conflict between "us" and "them". Language doesn't just express our thoughts, it shapes our thoughts too.

This is why French -- a language notorious for its multitude of euphemisms and its vast range of emotion-based subtleties -- has stayed the preferred language of Diplomats and Ambassadors around the world, for the last few centuries.
