A photographic visit to Bassano del Grappa and the Brenta river - Discovering Italy with alequandro

Hi guys! Finally sunny days have begun!
It rained for most of the month of May!

Saturday I decided to take a walk in Bassano del Grappa.
It is located in the province of Vicenza, in northern Italy.

Ciao ragazzi! Finalmente sono iniziate le giornate di sole!
Ha piovuto per quasi tutto il mese di maggio!

Sabato ho deciso di fare una camminata a Bassano del Grappa. Si trova in provincia di Vicenza, nel nord Italia.

As soon as the car is parked near the historic center, one is already struck by the ancient buildings that overlook the streets.

Appena parcheggiata la macchina nei pressi del centro storico, già si rimane colpiti dai palazzi antichi che si affacciano sulle strade.

There was an old Fiat 500 parked. They are always beautiful to look at ... it is a car that makes people smile.

C'era una vecchia Fiat 500 parcheggiata. Sono sempre belle da vedere...è un'auto che suscita il sorriso nelle persone.

I embarked on the main road which is accessible by car only by the residents, so it is pleasant to walk and look at the city with serenity.

Ho intrapreso la strada princiale che è accessibile con le auto solo dai resindenti, quindi è piacevole passeggiare e guardare la città con serenità.

A sign with the map of the city helps me to get my bearings between the numerous squares and alleys.

Un cartello con la mappa della città mi aiuta ad orintarmi tra le numerose piazze e vicoli.

In one of the squares, just in front of a Franciscan church a couple had just married and the guests were offering their best wishes.

In una delle piazze, proprio di fronte una chiesa francescana si era appena sposata una coppia e gli invitati stavano porgendo i propri auguri.

I kept walking towards the second square, along the road that went downhill.

Ho continuato a camminare verso la seconda piazza, lungo la strada che procedeva in discesa.

I was on the main street: Via Bassano.

On the steps and under the arcades that line the city squares there were numerous visitors who were passing by, looking at the shop windows or trying to photograph a glimpse of the city.

Ero sulla via principale: la via Bassano.

Sugli scalini e sotto i portici che costeggiano le piazze della città c'erano numerosi visitatori che passaeggiavano, guardavano le vetrine oppure cercavano di fotografare uno scorcio della città.

The palace overlooks the square where the town hall is located with the loggia on the second floor, where photography exhibitions are often held.
On the top floor, of evident Venetian style, there is a large clock and a bell above it.

Sulla piazza si affaccia il palazzo dove ha sede il municipio con la loggia al secondo piano, dove spesso vengono fatte mostre di fotografia.
All'ultimo piano, di evidente stile veneziano è presente un grande orologio e ancora più sopra una campana.

Do you think that these buildings had their facades all painted with drawings that unfortunately are now almost completely gone.
It must have been splendid to see the facades in their former glory!

Pensate che questi palazzi avevano le facciate tutte dipinte con disegni che purtroppo ora sono quasi del tutto spariti.
Dev'essere stato splendido vedere le facciate nel loro antico splendore!

I continued my walk towards the medieval castle where there is a tower that stands out over the city.

Ho proseguito la camminata verso il castello medievale dove è presente una torre che svetta sulla città.

When I was almost at the castle walls, I realized that there was a sporting event going on.

Quando ero quasi arrivato alle mura del castello, mi sono accorto che c'era una manifestazione sportiva in corso.

A marathon was taking place and the runners were finishing the last lap!

Si stava svolgendo una maratona e i corridori stavano ultimando l'ultimo giro!

The courtyard of the castle was occupied by the event staff, so I decided to continue the walk in another direction.

Il cortile del castello era occupato dallo staff della manifestazione, così ho deciso di proseguire la camminata in un'altra direzione.

500 meters later I came to a panoramic terrace overlooking the Brenta river.

500 metri dopo sono giunto ad una terrazza panoramica che si affaccia sul fiume Brenta.

Here is the famous Alpine bridge, designed in 1567 by the architect Andrea Palladio, now under renovation.

Ecco il famoso ponte degli alpini, progettato nel 1567 dall'architetto Andrea Palladio, ora in fase di ristrutturazione.

Looking to my right, the houses along the river bank, in the background the mountains.

Guardando alla mia destra, le case lungo la riva del fiume, sullo sfondo i monti.

I then decided to go down a narrow staircase to go to the bridge to take some photos from above the river.

Ho deciso poi di scendere lungo una stretta scalinata per andare verso il ponte per fare qualche foto da sopra il fiume.

There were really a lot of people!

Part of the bridge was cordoned off due to renovation work.

C'erano davvero molte persone!

Una parte del ponte era transennata a causa dei lavori di ristrutturazione.

You could see the original beams of the bridge structure that were numbered to be then relocated to the exact location they were previously.

Si potevano vedere le travi originali delal struttura del ponte che erano numerate per essere poi ricollocate nell'esatta posizione in cui erano in precedenza.

I tried to take a picture by inserting the lens between the holes in the wire mesh...

Ho provato a scattare una foto infilando l'obiettivo tra i fori della rete metallica...

Continuing the walk over the bridge I decided to go down further to make some shots at the level of the river bank.

Proseguendo la camminata oltre il ponte ho deciso di scendere ulteriormente per fare qualche scatto al livello della riva del fiume.

At one point the view opens onto the river and there is a broad view of the river, the houses, the castle and to the north the mountains.

Ad un certo punto la vista si apre sul fiume e si ha una visuale ampia sul fiume, le case, il castello e a nord i monti.

Here is another view of the bridge.

That path of boulders is temporary.
It has been designed to facilitate the phases of securing the structure.

Quel percorso di massi è provvisorio.
E' stato realizzato per facilitare le fasi della messa in sicurezza della struttura.

Continuing the walk, I realized that there were even people sunbathing in costume on the other side of the river!

Continuando la camminata mi sono poi accorto che c'erano addirittura persone che prendevano il sole in costume nell'altra riva del fiume!

After 5 minutes the road turns to the right and one is delighted at the sight of an ancient brick house enriched with climbing plants and ivies.

Dopo 5 minuti la strada piega a destra e si rimane estasiati alla vista di una casa antica realizzata in mattoni e arricchita da piante e edere rampicanti.

Then we go down again, we are already beginning to hear the roar of the water.

ITA

Poi si scende ancora, si comincia già a sentire il fragore dell'acqua.

And suddenly, beyond the fronds of some weeping willows, the Brenta river.

ITA

E ad un tratto, oltre le fronde di alcuni salici piangenti, il fiume Brenta.

I approach the water and walk towards a small cove.
There is an isolated dog on a boulder that emerges from the water and tries to return to his master who calls him amused.

Mi avvicino all'acqua e cammino verso una piccola insenatura.
C'è un cane isolato su masso che affiora dall'acqua e che cerca di tornare dal suo padrone che lo chiama divertito.

The scene is funny because the dog arrived alone there and does not have the courage to go back.

Occasionally there was courage when all the head was immersed in the water but then he didn't have the courage to start swimming.

La scena è buffa perchè il cane è arrivato da solo lì e non ha il coraggio di tornare indietro.

Ogni tanto si faceva coraggio immergendo tutta la testa nell'acqua ma poi non avevaa coraggio per iniziare a nuotare.

Here is that after a few minutes the dog becomes strong and swims towards his master :D

Ecco che dopo qualche minuto il cane si fa forza e nuota verso il suo padrone :D

Looking better towards the north between the water and the mountains we see a white isolated bell tower.

It is the bell tower of the villa Ca Erizzo, where in the first world war Ernest Hemingway had stayed during his service in the US section of the red cross.

One day I will visit the villa and make a post.

Osservando meglio verso nord tra l'acqua e le montagne si vede un campanile isolato bianco.

E' il campanile della villa Ca Erizzo, dove nella prima guerra mondiale aveva soggiornato Ernest Hemingway durante il suo servizio nella sezione statunitense della croce rossa.

Un giorno andrò a visitare la villa e farò un post .

Here is a family appreciating the landscape.
It is the perfect place to relax.

Ecco una famiglia mentre apprezza il paesaggio.
E' il luogo perfetto per rilassarsi .

On the opposite bank, a solitary man sunbathes on a lawn, which looks like a golf course from what is taken care of.

Sulla riva opposta un uomo solitario prende il sole su un prato, che sembra un campo da golf da quanto è curato.

Two children have fun in the water that I think is very cold!

Looking at these people having fun outdoors, we realize how important the sun is!

Due bambini si divertono nell'acqua che penso sia freddissima!

Guardando queste persone divertirsi all'aperto ci si rende conto di qualto sia importante il sole!!

Even if I don't do them I never decide to take a selfie but suddenly a child passes by me and I make a strange expression :D

It doesn't matter, I kept it and cut it a little! :D

Anche se non me li faccio mai decido di farmi un selfie ma ad un tratto un bambino mi passa vicino e faccio un espressione strana :D

Non importa, l'ho tenuta e tagliata un po! :D

More and more people were coming, it seems right, the place is so beautiful!

Arrivavano sempre più persone, mi sembra giusto, è talmente bello il posto!

Before returning to the car I take this photo.
I like it because you see the silhouettes of the family and the relaxed couple, and everyone has a different body position.

Prima di tornare alla macchina scatto questa foto.
Mi piace perchè si vedono le silouette della famiglia e della coppia distesa e tutti hanno una posizione del corpo diversa.

Just before retracing the bridge I photograph a statue with two lovers.
This statue is entitled: The Kiss

It was donated to the Alpine troops and to the city of Bassano.

Proprio prima di ripercorrere il ponte fotografo una statua con due innamorati.
Questa statua è intitolata: Il Bacio

E' stato donata agli alpini e alla città di Bassano.

When I was on the bridge I was entranced by the view from the terrace of a room overlooking the river.

ITA

Quando ero sul ponte rimasi estasiato dalla vista che c'è dalla terrazza di un locale che si affaccia sul fiume.

Over the bridge the streets were crowded compared to a couple of hours before. I've never seen so many people around here!

Oltre il ponte le strade si erano affollate rispetto a un paio d'ore prima. Non ho mai visto così tanta gente da queste parti!

To get back to the car I decided to take a different road, only pedestrian.

ITA

Per tornare all'auto ho deciso di fare una strada diversa, solo pedonale.

This bakery has existed for almost 30 years.
Sometimes I bought bread there and it's really good!

Questo panificio esiste da quasi 30 anni.
Qualche volta ho comprato il pane lì ed è davvero buono!

In this square I had already passed, from here you have a broader view and you can better see the impressive church.

In questa piazza ero già passato, da qui si ha una visione più ampia e si vede meglio l'imponente chiesa.

On my right, technicians and installers were preparing the stage for a concert by an Italian artist named Irama.

ITA

Alla mia destra dei tecnici e installatori stavano preparando il palco per un concerto di un artista italiano che si chiama Irama.
