MAMA AFRICA ARTS AND CRAFT VILLAGE ABUJA ---- VISIT NIGERIA THIS SUMMER
@chiama reporting for @wafrica
I had a very interesting day. I visited the Mama Africa Arts and Craft Village in Abuja. It was such a beautiful sight. There was a lot of things in this village. Oh! Did I mention that this a market. Well it is.
You can buy different types of gem stones, woven baskets, tie and dye cloths, all manners of beads and even beautiful paintings. It is not a large market but it has a lot of cool stuff.
I made sure to walk round the market to take pictures for you all to see. I was really fascinated with the precious stones. I did not know that I could actually get crystals in Abuja. I was so excited to get a little one.
This white ball is actually an ostrich's egg. I was told that people eat the insides the same way people eat chicken eggs. When he told me I was so shocked!
This currency is actually the money that was used in the Republic of Biafra during the Civil War in Nigeria. I saw other denominations as well.
Bags made out of Cow skin.
When I was little we used to paly this game a lot. It is called 'AYO'. LOL!!!! If you remember this game please say so in the comment section. If you are from another country and you have a game similar to this please let us know as well.
This door was carved in Mali.
The story behind this stone was just to unbelievable to be true. But the man who sells it says it is real. He said that this stone is actually an animal. An animal that turned to stone. Do you believe him?
Bangles made out of sea shells.
I hope you enjoyed this post. I have way too many pictures but I did not want to make this post extra long. This village is the place to get souvenirs if you visit Nigeria. There are way more things to buy in this market at a very affordable rate. I bought something for myself and if you would like to see it, please follow me @chiama so you would know when I put up a post about it.
If you want to visit Abuja, Nigeria this summer, please do!!!
Thank you for reading.
