If the Sun is 3,000 miles away, wouldn't it appear much larger in the northern hemisphere at this time of year than the southern hemisphere? The Sun would also appear much larger midday when measured with a ruler than when at the horizon during sunset and sunrise.
Due to it being 30 miles wide and only 3,000 miles away we would be able to perceive it to be smaller/larger due to it being much farther/closer.
If it was 860 million miles wide and 92 million miles away, our tiny little brains and bodies would not be able to perceive any change in the apparent size, because a move of 3,000 miles on a rock compared to 92 million miles is nothing. The Sun would appear exactly the same, as it does when you test this outside with a ruler.
The Sun would look about twice as large here as it would at the southern region of South America.
