  1. Zoroastrians worship a sacred fire that has been kept continuously burning for millenia.

  2. She decided to sacrifice chocolate for lent.

  3. In an act of sacrilege, the churches were deconsecrated and sold to breweries to turn them into pubs.

  4. The bishop visited the site of the new church to consecrate the land before building work could begin.

  5. The thugs decided to desecrate the graves by putting rubbish on them.

Re #3, pubs can be seen to be sacred, too. At least, I think so.

MY VOCAB PRACTICE:

  1. Notre Dame cathedral in France has a sacred relic inside it's altar, which is believed to be a tiny piece of the cross Christ died on

  2. The ancient Athenians made a sacrifice of cattle to the goddess Athena on her annual feast day, and then a banquet was held with the citizens eating the cooked meat and the bones being offered to the goddess.

  3. Swear words in Quebec usually involve religious terms like "tabernacle" which are uttered in an act of sacrilege.

  4. At the coronation, the Archbishop put holy oil on the monarch's forehead to consecrate her as the annointed Queen.

  5. The Taliban decided to desecrate and tear down the ancient statues of the Buddha.

MY VOCAB PRACTICE

  1. The acolyte carried the sacred tomes with reverence.

  2. The sacrifice, a young blonde virgin, was laid out on the stone slab.

  3. The nun shrieked, "This is sacrilege!"

  4. Once the artifact had been consecrated, the curse held no more sway over it.

  5. The desecrated church became, in time, a haunt for the creatures of the night.

MY VOCAB PRACTICE:

  1. Ordained Buddhist monks and nuns are able to read sacred religious texts in Sanskrit and Pali.
  2. In the old Biblical testament, a sacrifice often in the form of a lamb was offered before God.
  3. Cursing in profanity at religious sites is an act of sacrilege to God.
  4. The presence of the Pope to consecrate the crowd during Easter was a sight to behold.
  5. Many holy sites were desecrated at the height of the Chinese Cultural Revolution.

People often forget that bible and quran are not things of sacrilege

MY VOCAB PRACTICE:

  1. Sacred.
    In the Catholic religion, the hosts are sacred once they are consecrated by the priest at church during Mass.

  2. Sacrifice.
    Many husbands would sacrifice separation from their families to find work in other countries so they can support their family’s standard of living decently.

  3. Sacrilege.
    You can be accused of sacrilege if you take communion without having had any confession for a very long time.

  4. Consecrate.
    The hosts have to be consecrated by the priest before giving it to the congregation at Holy Communion during Mass.

  5. Desecrate.
    Thieves who go in to steal and destroy sacred tombs and artifacts are committing an act of desecration that which others considered holy.
