Aceh Jaya Regency is one of the districts in Aceh Province, Indonesia. Aceh Jaya Regency was formed in 2002 as a result of the division of West Aceh District.

Aceh Jaya Regency, especially Jaya sub-district is famous for its distinctive population profile. Some of the residents of Jaya Subdistrict are like Europeans where there are white, blue-eyed, and blond hair. They are believed to be descendants of 16th century Portuguese soldiers whose ships were stranded on the coast of the Kingdom of Daya, and held captive by the king of the region.

These captured Portuguese soldiers gradually converted to Islam, married local residents and adapted the traditions of Aceh from generation to generation. Their descendants at this time were seen especially in the Jaya sub-district (about 75 km southwest of Banda Aceh).

Aceh Jaya Regency is the west coast of Sumatra coast with a coastline length of approximately 160 kilometers. The average rainfall throughout the year is 318.5 mm with the number of rainy days averaging 19 days. The air temperature and air humidity throughout the year are not too fluctuating, with the minimum air temperature ranging between 21.0-23.2 ° C and the maximum air temperature averaging between 29.9-31.4 ° C.

The population of Aceh Jaya Regency in 2005 was based on the results of the Aceh Nias Population Census (SPAN) which was a population census after the earthquake and tsunami that hit the Aceh region. SPAN was carried out by BPS in September 2005 with the results of the population of Aceh Province as many as 4,031,589. Meanwhile the population of Aceh Jaya Regency as a result of the census was 60,660 people consisting of 31,515 men and 29,145 women. In 2012, the population of Aceh Jaya Regency was 82,172 inhabitants, consisting of 42,653 male residents and 39,519 female residents. .

Aceh Jaya Regency is one area that is very suitable for the cultivation of various types of agricultural commodities, both types of food crops such as rice, secondary crops, fruits, and vegetables, as well as types of plantation crops such as rubber, oil palm, and coconut. Aceh Jaya Regency is included in the Agricultural Zone area among several districts in Aceh Province. Besides that the land available for agricultural cultivation is still quite extensive. The livestock sub-sector is also very promising to be improved in this area considering the area in the form of still extensive grasslands is available.

For marine fisheries it is also a mainstay of this region because all of its sub-districts are directly adjacent to the Indonesian ocean. However, after the earthquake and tsunami disaster, most agricultural commodities experienced a decline in production in 2005. This was caused by damage to the cultivation area of various agricultural crops by the tsunami wave. Like the deep coconut trees cultivated along the coast of this region, from Teunom to the Jaya sub-district, it was destroyed by the tsunami. The decline in agricultural crop production was also due to the paralysis of Calang city as a center for providing agricultural production facilities such as fertilizers, medicines and other agricultural equipment.

In 2005 the production of paddy rice was recorded at 13,844 tons of grain, or experienced a very large decline compared to 2004, which decreased by 74.31 percent with total paddy production in 2004 amounting to 53,896 tons. Likewise, the production of secondary crops and vegetables has averaged a decline of more than 50 percent compared to the previous year's production.
