The Reset

The last leaderboard reset will happen on sunday at midnight EST. There will also be a scheduled maintenance to roll out some of the changes for the upcoming season. Stay tuned for more info on that by following @vimm and joining our Discord.

The New Leaderboard

After a few months of tweaking and testing, we finally have a model for the Channel Scores calculation that does a decent job at ranking channels based on consistency and channel activity. Now that doesn't mean that the algorithm itself wont receive changes in the future, but that does mean that we can shift our focus on other things such has improving the UI and implement other features.

While in the past we used to reset it on a monthly basis for testing purposes, we're now adopting a new format that won't require hard resets. Your score will be based on the same metrics, but for the last 90 days instead of just the current month.

Points Decay

Since there wont be any reset (after this one), points from older channel activity will gradually decay. This means that recent streams will be worth more points toward your channel's score, while older streams will lose points over time.

TIP: Going inactive for long periods of time will hurt your channel score.

Rewards Changes

While the 12% beneficiary fee worked as a way to ensure minimal return to pay for servers and keep the lights on, we are now moving forward with a revised model that will leave more rewards for Vimm users and help build a more sustainable economy on the platform.

First, we're reducing that fee to a minimum of 5%. Every streamer can also increase it as a donation to the development fund for Vimm.tv.

Why?

A few streamers expressed their concerns about our fees preventing them from getting a return on bid bots. While it is important to know that votes bought from bots wont increase your channel's score or affect where your channel appears in the search results on Vimm.tv, we believe that one should be allowed to promote their posts without having to burn their hard earned money doing it.

Word from the developer

I'm aware that the recent announcement from @Ned got a lot of people nervous as to the future of this blockchain and the projects that are based on it. While there is a lot that's still uncertain, I believe in the potential of this platform and this is why I decided to dedicate a lot of my time to developing tools and applications for it. Nothing has changed there.

In fact, I see these potential changes as a challenge for us to figure out ways to bring new money in this economy. Not by creating hype or selling false promises, but by building something useful that will bring people into this space and give them a good reason to stay. I like to use Steem Monsters and Fundition.io as good examples of this.

A lot of projects are facing real challenges right now. An important lesson that we can learn from history here, is that we cannot only rely on the reward pool to keep a healthy economy going. This is probably obvious to any experienced entrepreneur or investor. But it's important for everyone to understand that what drives the value of a token (or anything really) is how much new money is brought into that economy (buyers). In other words, you need to give people a reason to buy it and use it.

To conclude, it's not time to stop. Now is the time to keep building and come up with innovative ideas to bring some life into this ecosystem.
