Musical Mood Of The Day: Supertramp

in #video6 years ago

Good morning! Today I started off by listening to yet another group of progressive rock classics, namely Supertramp. The band was formed as 'Daddy' in 1969 before eventually switching to Supertramp one year later. Throughout the decades, their music was marked by the remarkable and original songwriting of multi-instrumentalists Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies.

They've reached commercial success and critical acclaim starting in the mid 1970s, when they released 'Crime of the Century' (1974), and once more during the late 1970s and early 1980s, when they released 'Breakfast in America' (1979). In a career spanning more than 4 decades, the band managed to release no less than 9 studio albums, some of which charted quite high in the United States, United Kingdom, or Australia.

The intriguing and introspective nature of the lyrics coupled with the complex instrumentation of their songs made Supertramp one of the greatest progressive rock bands of all time and certainly one of the models for both aspiring musicians and even some of their contemporary peers.

Below you can listen to 'School', the first song off the 'Crime of the Century' (1974). Enjoy! Personal note: To me it feels just as Pink Floyd's 'The Wall', only that this song was released to a considerable extent earlier than the aforementioned record.
