Marianne Faithfull "Broken English"

Marianne Faithfull is one of the best lyricists in the history of Contemporary Music. The former girl friend of Mick Jagger (Rolling Stones), is a genius musician and soloist who speaks "the truth" with all of its complexity. She holds back nothing. A recovering drug addict, she overcame addiction against all odds. Here in "Broken English", she sings about the "Cold War" between the US and the Former Soviet Union" which was going on strong when this song was released in the early 80's. Her phrasing is decidedly raspy which adds to the song's message: "What are we fighting about"?
