Thoughts of Simon Bolivar

in #venezuela5 years ago (edited)

Greetings again my dear readers, for those who do not know Simon Bolivar was a hero who liberated 5 nations in South America, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Venezuela and Ecuador. The government in turn in Venezuela has taken the name of Simón Bolivar as its flag, which is why the name of the country was changed from the Republic of Venezuela to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and many of the social programs are related to the name of Bolivar. Today I want to share a thought of the Liberator Simón Bolivar and reflect a little on it.

“Nada es tan peligroso como dejar largo tiempo el poder en un mismo ciudadano”

Simón Bolívar, Angostura Congress, February 15, 1819

It surprises me how those who so much use the Liberator as a flag seem to ignore this thought, a person who spends a lot of time in power gets used to having it, puts down roots and then will not want to release the power for the good, history has shown so because at least I do not know anyone who after being in power for a long time has divested himself of it for the good.

The point is that people begin to feel powerful over everyone else and human nature is insatiable, those who seek power will always want to have more and more, on the other hand a person who knows that the power he has been granted is temporary will be more humble and careful in his way of governing than one who thinks he will have the power in perpetuity. The first one acts with caution because he knows that when he leaves power he will have to give an account for the bad things he has done and depending on his management he will receive tomatoes or applause. The second to believe that he will never have to account to anyone becomes a tyrant doing anything to be in power regardless of the welfare of those under his government, instead of offering freedom implements mechanisms of destruction destroying what makes citizens independent and taking captive the thought of the free. These mechanisms are used to restrict people from thinking or opposing their will because if they do they are threatened with jail, torture and even death. This is how tyranny can seize a country in which all wealth has been stored corruptly and illegally in the bank accounts of a few people while many suffer basic needs.

When I do this analysis I clearly understand why liberator Simón Bolivar thought this way, and that is that we Venezuelans are living it in our own flesh and blood.
