Vegan Activism - Medellín, Colombia // We are the voice of the voiceless ✊ #VeganHeroesContest

In Medellin, the antiespecist movement is very new, but it has gained impressive strength in a very short time, just two years ago there was no vegan activism in the city, there were some vegetarian groups, other anti-bullfighting groups and many defending dogs and cats, these movements are also important, but in our hearts we knew that we have to venture into the vegan activism in the city.

The beginning

It all started with a project called "revegan", several vegans joined together and started sharing information on social media, creating content for youtube and writing articles ... Then some of us attended the first vegan fest in Colombia, we traveled to Bogotá and there we had the opportunity to learn a lot about vegan activism (we were even able to launch our brand of shirts there and that was super cool).

You can skip the intro and the ending, cause those are in spanish 😅in a couple days when I came back from a short trip I will put some english subtitles 😊

We also made our first DxE (Direct Action Everywhere) in Bogotá during the Festival

A lot of ideas

So one of the friends who attended the festival with me and I, we contacted an Uruguayan girl named Azul, and the three of us with all the ideas we had, started doing activism in the city, we wanted to do 3 activities basically: Earthlings Experience, DxE and The Save Movement.

So we started with Earthlings Experience:

Over time this idea matured and we joined the international NGO Anonymous For The Voiceless, so we started making the famous "cube of truth"

Other activities

it took us a little time to start doing other activities, since we needed to meet more activists willing to participate, however, with time and a lot of research work, we were able to bring DxE to Medellín and recently The Save Movement too.

Today

Today we continue to do a "cube of truth" every Friday, we are starting to do a biweekly DxE and The Save Movement monthly, Revegan also continues as an educational medium, now also a new society was born called "Unión Vegana Medellín" from which we are doing events every month and a half in the city, for now we do workshops and bazaars with vegan companies and at those we share information about activism, we reproduce videos, we expose photographs and others ...

"Vegano 21" was also born, which is a hybrid of Challenge 22 and in which we already carried out the first cycle with 25 people and we have another 80 registered for the following ones.

I hope this can be an inspiration to many people in cities where vegan activism is very small or doesn't exist. You can make a difference! You can change the world! You can spread the message! Just dare and start.
