The Curious Expedition - Greek Translation Part. 22

Current Session

Feels like I am on fire these days, delivering one translation after the other. I guess switching to 900- translated-words-per-contribution was a good choice and feels like I am way more productive this way. I guess the 1000 words act something like a psychological wall for me.. Prior to it, I am like "ok, this is easy" and after it I am like "god I hate my life, I need to a break for a week before I do another translation". And for a humongous project like this (80.000+ words) taking a weekly break after each translation is certainly not an option!

Now, back to the actual translation. I started this part yesterday, at around 1 am, worked on it for approximately an hour and then hit the bed. Woke up in the morning and after a couple hours I had it finished while enjoying my morning coffee.

Like always, here are a couple of strings I translated during this session, to give you a small taste of what I am dealing with:

  1. "Make more room"

  2. "[The wound of $name had become terribly infected|$Name’s wound had festered quite horrifically|$Name started to behave very strange], [and $he was looking particularly sick|and I’m sure something was wriggling beneath $his flesh|and I thought I saw something crawling underneath $his clothes]. [As I awoke one morning|One morning] I [found|was shocked to see] that $he had [turned|changed|contorted|mutated] into [a grotesque creature|an Abomination]."

  3. "$name [was particularly upset with our decision to explore this place|was out of $his superstitious mind]. $He [warned us that we had angered the gods of this land|complained about our sacrilegious behaviour|sobbed hysterically about how we had cursed our luck]."

  4. "We [shook hands|said our farewells] and he [wished us well|blessed our journey|prayed for us|muttered a prayer for our health][, then it was time to go forth to new adventures!|. Onwards!|. New discoveries await!]"

  5. "The priest permitted us access to the mission storage room and promised that he would have all items despatched to the civilised world for us if we were unable to retrieve them ourselves."

As you can see it's more or less the same standard stuff I have been translating for the last 20+ parts.

And again, here's a small taste of the music I am listening to when translating stuff for @utopian-io:

Project Details

The Curious Expedition is a rogue-like expedition simulation set in the 19th century. It's the first game by indie developer Maschinen-Mensch. The game is available on Steam, GOG, Humble Store and at the official homepage http://curious-expedition.com. The game has been regularly updated through out the last 2 years. A list of all the updates can be found here. For information on modding the game, go here . [source and more info]

Gameplay

Here's a video showing some in-game footage from the game to get a good idea of what to expect. Maybe it will convince you to give it a try:

And here's what I believe to be the official trailer:

Why Did I Choose This Project?

Well, to be honest, I chose this project because all the other options were applications with boring names like Freecad and Jabref. I thought it would be fun (edit: less boring) to translate a game instead. And thank god... I was right!

I am sure my team members are very jealous that I get to translate strings like "Let's eat", "Giant tortoise", "I feel happy and sad", and "Oh my god" while they get to translate stuff like "resolving duplicate keys", "Port Design", "Constraining modifier key" and "Corrugated elements"... LOL!

Too bad for them, now they have to live with the choices they have made....MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Contribution Specifications

  • Translation Overview: This is a really large project, approximately 80.000 words and obviously it's gonna take me a while to finish. In each part I plan to translate anywhere from 700 to 1200 words. For the most part, the translation is very easy as there are few, if any, technical terms.
  • Languages: The project is being translated from English to Greek.
  • Word Count: According to Crowdin, for Part 22# I translated 911 words, for a total of 23361 translated words. Since most of the strings translated were part of the in-game dialogues there were only a handful (1, maybe 2%) that were left in the original language, e.g. screenshot.

Thank you for contributing to the Davinci-Utopian translation project @trumpman!
This was the 22nd part for the “Curious Expedition” project and your contribution number 25 to the translation category over those almost three months the Translation project has been running.

To quote a part of @ruth-girl's comment on your first part of this project:

You are currently working on the Curious Expedition, a game that, even though it may not contain difficult terms and vocabulary, is one of the biggest projects a member of our team has ever tried to work on (almost 80,000 words). Good luck on this difficult task!
When you started translating, a handful of strings were already submitted (but not approved or voted) by another translator irrelevant to the Davinci-Utopian project. You have gone through them and checked them for any corrections that needed to be made, you have even fixed a few of them that were problematic.

Your translation was nearly perfect! You missed a space here and there, and you mistyped a "1" in a string, and that's about it! This probably is the best translation I've ever seen, at least in terms of mistakes.

Your personal tone in the contribution post makes the whole thing easier to read for people who are lurking around in your profile and/or the @utopian-io tags.

Thank you for being part of the Awesome Greek Team! Here's a cookie, you deserve it more than me, this time at least:
