[Translation][Portuguese] WarriorJS from English (2036 words) Day 1

in utopian-io •  last month

Project Details

WarriorJS is an exciting game of programming an Artificial Intelligence where you wear the skin of a warrior climbing a tall tower to reach The JavaScript Sword at the top level. Legend says that the sword bearer becomes enlightened in the JavaScript language by instructing the warrior to battle enemies, rescue captives, and stay alive. As the warrior (player) advances up the tower (levels), he'll be challanged to more difficult programming problems to solve in order to keep on going until the top is reached.

Describred by the developers as a fun way to learn the JavaScript language, one does not need to be an expert to play:

No matter if you are new to programming or a JavaScript guru, WarriorJS will put your skills to the test. Will you dare?

In a personal note I must say that, even though I'm not a programmer nor familiar with any programming language, WarriorJS sounds like something I would try. By allying a functioning game to JavaScript, we not only apply a new knowledge, but we also see the product and evolution of this new skill.

The game is available on the official homepage https://warrior.js.org/en/.

1. Translation Overview

The project on Crowdin is composed by roughly 4000-4500 words, which means at least two reports. This Day 1 report represents the first half and gathers strings from the main master>docs folder, sub-folders community and maker.

The sub-folder community strings are related to the game's ecosystem, roadmap and social informations, thus the majority of the strings were straight forward phrases with no major problems when it comes to adapting to Brazilian Portuguese.

The sub-folder maker in the other hand, is composed with the game's tutorials and definitions, explaining what the in-game terms are and what each code represents. The main challenge here was researching specific terms used in programming in order to maintain a concise understanding of the sentences.

2. Languages

This translation was made from English to Portuguese.

For two years I worked as a basic to intermediate level English teacher at a local school, expanding greatly my knowledge of the English and Portuguese grammar/vocabulary. Now I'm a full time content creator using English as my main language.

I volunteered to translate two different projects for the brazilian community, which served as a sample for my application on the Da-Vinci/Utopian Portuguese Translation Team, where I'm currently working.

3. Word Count

  • On this work I have translated a total of 2036 words over a period of 4 hours
