Description

This tutorial explores how to use the XY Pad LFO module. We explore the user interface and how all the aspects of the module functions.

Learn the functionality of the XY Pad LFO module

XY Pad is a unique LFO. This module allows users to select or draw a graphic on the interface which is then interpreted by the module and output as control voltages. The drawing area has an X and Y axis. As the module traces the line of the graphic selected it registers the changes in both these axis.

The modules provides many graphics for musicians to choose or a new graphic can be drawn using the mouse.

Learn how to select and create LFO graphics

At the top of the user interface we are provided with two buttons indicated as RND. The left RND button provides several graphical options while the right RND button shows variations on each of the graphics available with the left button.

By clicking in the pad and moving your mouse you can create your own unique graphic.

Learn the relationship of X and Y to the output control voltage (including -X & -Y)

We are provided with 4 LFO outputs in this module: X, Y, -X, & -Y. X and Y represent the horizontal and vertical axis respectively. -X and -Y are the inverts of both these axis. the negative variables can be seen in the interface as a 'ghost cursor.'

As the cursor on the interface traces the chosen graphic the values for both the X and Y axis are applied to the respective outputs as voltages.

Learn the mathematics behind Scale and Offset

We can fine tune how the module interprets the variables from the X and Y axis by using the Scale and Offset dials. Scale multiplies the X or Y output by a value between 0.01 and 1.0. The Offset dials adds +/- 5v to the X or Y Outputs.

Learn how to manipulate the playback rate

Modifying the playback rate of your LFO graphic is quite simple. We are provided with 2 controls - Speed and Multiply. Speed increase and decreases the rate of playback. The maximum rate with the Speed control is fairly high but not extreme. Have a moderate amount of control allows us to fine tune the playback rate with a high degree of accuracy. The Speed control can be controlled with Control Voltage using the input beside the dial.

Multiply takes the rate selected with the Speed dial then multiples that variable by the variable selected with the Multiple dial. This allows us to select an incredibly high rate of speed. Multiply does not proved a great deal of accuracy where as the Speed control does.

Hello @buckydurddle

Another great tutorial at the foundational level for beginners to start from scratch and learn all these features of how to select, and learning the different relationships and functionalities.

All your explanation is very clear and great resources and files you put there on your github site.

Keep up the excellent video creation. One of these days, it will be great to have tutorials on how to set up a recording studio for video creation.
