Translating Steem Whitepaper Genesis | English-Dutch | #7
Project details
My first project as a Davinci/Utopian translator was translating the Steem Whitepaper. You can read the final post here with links to all the translations I have done within that project. I noticed the Genesis Whitepaper had only been translated 37% of which no strings were yet proofread/confirmed on Crowdin.
The Genesis Whitepaper is interesting since it lays out all the initial thoughts on the Steem Blockchain, with the Whitepaper as I translated it before leaving out some aspects and/or tweaking some points due to gained insights. For me it's interesting to translate the Steem Whitepaper Genesis since the information is still fresh on my mind, meaning I will be able to translate quickly and do a little game of 'spot the differences'. By translating the Whitepaper I will also be reading the Genesis for the first time and I'm curious what I will learn.

I've translated a little over a thousand words. There is a lot of overlap with the 'current' whitepaper, except in the Genesis Whitepaper they add some calculations about how to figure out bandwidth for users on the platform, and how to deal with surges or decreased activity, and explain the concept of mining.

This is my seventh translation of the Genesis Whitepaper, and until now parts of the translated texts were overlapping with my previous translation work, while other parts of the text were new to me. This translation had mostly 'new' information, to me, and it involved a lot of of hypothetical calculations surrounding the topic of the reserve ratio and how to potentially deal with attacks on the network.
Next week I'll take a break from the Steem Genesis Whitepaper translation to work on a short project that I can finish in one week. The week after I'll get right back on this project!

This one was giving us both a headache I believe, with very long sentences that needed to be re-arranged to sound right in Dutch. I think the Dutch language in particular has this, where the English grammar just doesn't make any sense if we were to translate it literally.
However, you have this down to the T. I agree with the words that you mentioned, it was better to leave them alone, since there is just no suitable word for it in Dutch, unless we want to give it a different or lesser meaning. Great call!
