User Authority: @steem-ua - A whale next week?

in #userauthority6 years ago

Hello all

My vlog today relates to the rapid growth of the @steem-ua account, which could well grow to around 500,000 Steem Power in the coming weeks.

The account is currently voting on the content of users who have delegated Steem Power (and a few who have not) to the account, and the size of the vote is based on the User Authority (UA) score of the user account.

There are 3 main algorithms at work. The first is based on the follower matrix, in which each of an accounts' followers UA score is considered, along with each of the follower followers score, and so on, across the whole of the Steem blockchain.

e.g. To calculate the score of one account, every accounts UA score must be calculated.

The second algorithm is tied to the account being a witness or not (or if the witness account is 'owned' by a team of accounts). This particular score seems to a reasonable amount of weight, as many users in the top one hundred UA score table are witnesses: https://steem-ua.com/

The third main algorithm related to engagement, and the UA score post is evaluated by the UA score of the commentators and the voters.

I think the project is a positive for Steem because:

It looks like a good distributor of Stake - something which I think that, without the selfless generosity of a handful of large stakeholders and the Dapps, has not taken place on this scale thus far.

For an account delegating 50/100/250 Steem Power for 2, 4, 7 votes each week, depending on the UA score of the account, the return from the votes by @steem-ua currently looks to be far in excess of that given by delegating to a bid-bot.

There is likely to be an increase in engagement from the accounts delegating to @steem-ua, as they seek to improve their score. An increase in transactions (comments) and community should be seen as a positive, both for individuals an the overall community.

It may encourage accounts to hold Steem Power for longer, knowing that there is a regular vote coming to their account, which they can work to improve the value of.

I think the success of User Authority and @steem-ua does depend on larger account delegating more than the 250 Steem Power required to receive the maximum 7 votes each week. Thank you to the accounts like @stellabelle, @neoxian, @cryptoctopus, @rival, etc, who have already made this generous move.

Overall I think @steem-ua, and UA as a whole is a positive for the Steem blockchain, and look forward to further developments.

Cheers

Asher

So let's say steem-ua made it and became the most powerful account on the blockchain, so 2 guys are going to rule all of the community behaviour on a "decentralized" network?
If they say "comments are valuable" so everyone is going to comment violently to get two cents more.
If they say "less you follow, more your account's worth" so everyone is going to unfollow the inactives.
If they say "if you put images in your posts bla bla".. hope I explained my concern.

Yes :)

It could be handed over at some point, or become open source?

I believe it is only the comments on your post that count, so you will need to comment 'well' elsewhere to bring visitors.

If they say "less you follow, more your account's worth" so everyone is going to unfollow the inactives.

I don't see a problem with this at all.

If they say "if you put images in your posts bla bla"..

Can you explain this a bit further? :)

I heard that "handing over" might be their intention at first place, yet I don't know for sure. And being open source is not going to change the fact that a group of people will decide what we need to do to be able to get more.

Unfollowing of course not a problem but when you do it just because you told so, is kinda bad. And this one might seem harmless but we don't know what will be the next metric they'll add to their algorithm. Like the last one I try to explain, for now we need to be followed by witnesses to get a higher ua score. Become one if possible to gain more from ua votes. What if they say you need to put at least 3 images to your posts because it's more appealing so it will affect your ua in a better way. Or what if they say you can increase your score by mentioning steem-ua in your posts, or put a link to steem-ua website. I don't know they can implement anything they want and we know steem userbase is keen to do whatever it needs to be done for a cent.

We may feeding our next monster unintentionally.

That's the cool thing about it, the delegation can be pulled in 1 minute and the 'monster' is no more.

I appreciate concerns, but trust these guys (whilst obviously working towards making a few STEEM for themselves) are trying to improve the place. Whether that be distribution of rewards, the trending page, or whatever. I say give it a chance, and if the monster appears, the bad press will spread like wildfire and the delegations will be gone.

Unless the ROI is super-profitable for them...sorry for adding this wedge here 😉

Everyone was cheering to bid-bots I imagine when people are finally be able to take over the trending. (=
And now, Is scipio The Sun That The Oracle Predicted A Year Ago?

It is at least great to see some people voice some concern. When they start talking about delegating and ROI…. Well we already had been down that road.

Yes they were, including me :) Happy to be proved wrong, again!

It's the way things are heading with Oracles though, lists of lists.

And now, Is @scipio The Sun That The Oracle Predicted A Year Ago?

Gotta love @stellabelle!

You are a bold man holding all those electronics next to a pool like that! 😜

I'm excited to see where this goes. Thanks for the video!

It's a go-pro, waterproof! Maybe there was some water in the mic though? That's my excuse.

I wonder how UA will work for a video content creator like you - hopefully good!

Thanks for visiting Lilly 😁

First, is steemauto not working??? Geez, you're on autopilot bud :)

Second, I guess being out the last week and a half, I missed this. Gimme a quick run-down pretty please. Can I delegate? Should I?

Thanks as always Ash!

...and not to butter you up too much, but such a serious, tanned and handsome good-egg- face you got there :)

Steemauto has been on the blink for sure, I think it's ok now?

Yes I think you should. 250 SP if you post every day, 100 for 4 times a week, 50 for 2 times/votes a week.

Butter me up buttercup xx thank you! 😊😁

yep, seems to be working just fine now!

Ok, good to know. I think at the moment I'll go for 50 and up it later it I pick things up a bit. Thanks for the advice!

I read this much earlier today, minutes after you responded actually, but pulled an "Asher" and thought I had replied to you. But now that I have you, just know that I've been singing, "fill me up, fill me up, buttercup baby..." all friggin' day haha

hahaha :D

We'll at least it's a cheerful tune, can't help but smile when I hear it.

'Pulled an Asher' - all the time here!

I like the potential that this has for the future of curation (shocker right?), and see it being the start of a Steemit, Inc. backed curation guild which will reward those authors that have the larger scores. The how, as in what affects the scores is always something I will be wary of but as of right now, I feel the system is pretty fair at calculating scores.

I also do get a bit concerned when everything is controlled by the few, and while I think the accounts that are larger have done their time.. I wish those consistently shit posting weren’t rewarded with high scores just because of tenure essentially. But, it’s an improvement overall so I won’t nitpick.

The continued circle jerk is always a concern though and I’m interested to see how it plays out. As of now I support the initiative, think it’s a great alternative to bid bots for those accounts wanting to increase their profits a bit, and want to be involved in any way I can.

Excited to see how this shapes the platform and the actions of users in the weeks to come. Whale by next week is completely doable I think as well.

Great job, I think you brought up some good points.. and now I’m hankering for a swim. 😜

A Steemit backed curation guild, that sounds appealing!

Glad you are in support at present, we can always change our minds if things go bad.

The pool will be ok heatwise for another month, see ya there 😜

I got my first UA vote today. Very happy with it. I know there may be some concerns with "Taking Control" but I think the fact people can always pull their delegations helps. The "REP" system is broken, and people are waking up to the bid bots after enough time, so as for them becoming a "Content" Control mechanism, I don't really worry about that. So far no control mechanism has worked, and I think steemit has a large enough social user base to prevent any control mechanisms.

Glad to hear, and agree broken rep and a large enough 'delegation' base to quickly unravel should things go pear-shaped. Cheers!

Having just recently gotten my first @steem-ua - generated comment and upvote, I can now say I like this idea from experience, not just the promise of it.

Being an engineer and "numbers guy," I really liked the design of the "comment / reply template."

As a result, I will increase my delegation to this initiative.

Thanks for the great post @abh12345. I appreciate all you do to add value to our Steem blockchain!

Hey Rob

Glad to hear you have tried and tested @steem-ua, and like what you see.

I do think daily posters who are engaged will benefit well from this project.

Thank you!

This is an amazing project and I am so excited about this. I haven't seen this much excitement on Steemit for a really long time. It's projects like these that deserve support.

I agree, give support to new projects - one will be a winner :D

Hi Asher, I for one happy that curation has taken a more important role now. Time will tell but it looks very promising.

For sure, if people want to be visited, they will have to do the same - sounds a bit closer to how it should be?

I did delegate 50SP but still waiting on my first upvote. Curious when it will arrive and how big it will be!
Any idea how long it will last before they start upvoting?

My first vote from them came today and according to steemworld - -1.88% ( $ 0.444 / ~ 0.386 USD ) - - So pretty happy with the vote. Like you a 50SP delegation, and if it helps UA score of 4.036.

My UA score in only 3.209. So the upvote I will receive should be lower.
But I also did see posts about from people with 3.257 UA, who did get an upvote of 2.67% worth $0.65.
So looks a little bit random.

It is a pretty convoluted formula they have. For that round of voting from them I think I was 148 out of 188 contents, so I think the further up the content list the better. Like you/we have a UA score and then the post have a UA type score, and then I think they factor in the amount delegated, so you could end with more or less or the same vote value. I think we will have a better understanding after a week or two of it running. The important thing is if we are satisfied or not with the vote. Me I was happy. It is one of the biggest votes I have gotten in a long time. So two of those a week, or close to that amount, and I will continue to be happy. Heck even if it is down in the teens I will still be happy. After all all I can give is a 4 cent vote right now.

For sure all small things do add up.
I just noticed that they have update they web page. Now all the delegators are shown and I am on it :)
Will try another post, my first actifit report, and check if that will get an upvote.
I do have time but ... no patience!
For lots of small accounts this could be a real gamechanger and you know what the best thing is... some of the delegations were taking back from the upvote bots!!

That may do it. The one they picked of mine was the one I did after delegating, so maybe they do not look at pre-delegation post.

50 SP should give you two votes a week, the first post should be the one most recent following your delegation. Later today hopefully 😁

Mmh, delegation was done yesterday. 2018-09-04, 13:10
Post about was written 2018-09-04, 13:37, No upvote from steem-ua
Todays post was written 2018-09-05, 09:41, no upvote from steem-ua

Wouldn't be the first time that something goes wrong with the combination me and technology!
I will wait patiently!

I like it too, delegating 250 & would not mind more if I could. Just concerned will everyone follow me cause my UA score is high or for my content?

The people following you do not matter, it's who you follow that affects your score (and your follows - not followers, score).

Interesting... thank you
