College Football

The best FCS teams typically get to play up a division in early season play. It can be brutal for lower division teams although there is usually money involved for the smaller programs. These inter-division games are interesting as a measure of college athletics. While still fairly rare overall, FCS teams have been knocking off ranked BCS teams pretty much every year now. A decade or so ago it would have been considered a shocker. These days not so much.

There is clearly a huge gap between the BCS and FCS Divisions, but it also clear that the top FCS programs have a good chance of beating half the BCS teams. I think it is great. Smaller school rising up and challenging big programs.

Rising to the challenge is what truly makes America Great. If you don't challenge yourself, you can't rise above yourself. This is why Americans love college sports. To succeed at the collegiate level, you have to put it on the line. You can't mail it in. You can't call in sick or make excuses. You show up and get the job done or you don't. No sugar coating. No government equalization program. The score settles it and we move on.

One of the most American of American things is we know how to move on.
