Intro

I was thinking a lot which building should I choose to present in this post. It wasn't an easy choice: should I go with some building from Europe or Latin America? Maybe Wawel, huge castle in Kraków, city where I've spent half of my adult life. It's big, impressive and it has a great history, as it was the main residency for most of Polish kings.
Maybe Atomium from Brussels, futuristic building created for Expo, which reminds atom with electrons running around protons and neutrons.
Maybe Monumento a la Bandera from Rosario, city where I'm living currently. Colossal tower connected with some square and few buildings which together remind the ship of the first Europeans who arrived to that land long time ago.

Finally, I decided to skip all that ideas and write about some unusual building from Córdoba.

Bicentennial Civic Center in Córdoba

That administrative building has very futuristic, modern architecture which works very well with the area where it's located. It's built right after historic part of the city, next to the railroad from one side and river from another.

One of the walls connects with water below, creating the mirage like the building goes both sides: up and under the water.

There are also two bridges which goes directly to the building and squares in around of it.

In my opinion, good architecture is not only beautiful but also practical, should have some purpose. That area before was very poor. Even though the district is relatively close to the historical center, it was forgotten by the citizens, dirty, poor and quite dangerous. By creating that marvelous building, spending money on the parks and squares in around and moving some administrative offices there, Córdoba stimulated citizens to invest there, build new apartments, move to this place. Now, former poor neighbourhood has changed into another fancy downtown.
