Firefox Private Browsing vs. Chrome Incognito: Which is Faster?

in #update6 years ago
Firefox Quantum We have the fastest version of Firefox ever made. This is twice as fast as Firefox 52 and compared to the page comparison, it is often faster than the latest version of Chrome's head. By using important performance criteria, we were able to optimize Firefox to eliminate unnecessary delays and provide a great browsing experience to our users.

Most browser display standards are focused on the use of a regular browsing mode. But, what about private browsing? Given that the use of private browsing is so common, we want to see how the personal browsing of Firefox came with Chrome's secret, when this page came on load time (a fully loaded one on the screen at that time Between the click and the page).

spoiler ALERT…. Private browsing of Firefox Quantum is fast ... really fast

Why would private browsing performance be different?

  • Websites have the ability to load content and run scripts from different sources. Some of these scripts include trackers. Trackers are used for various reasons, from website analysis to tracking website engagement for the purpose of targeted advertisements. is used to. Unfortunately, the use of trackers on websites is quite unfortunately, the trackers can delay page loads, while the browser waits for the tracking to track responses.

  • In 2015, Firefox became the only browser to include in-person tracking enabled by default in private browsing mode. Tracking protection, as the name implies, blocks the resources from loading, if the URL is loaded then the tracking of disconnect is on the list of known trackers defined by the security list. This list has a balanced approach to blocking and does not include a site that does not track track (as defined in the EFF guidelines). While the feature is used to help users keep using private browsing to be clearly selected, the side effect is a very fast browsing experience on those websites, which can be used to load content from URLs on the tracking list Let's try. A previous Firefox study in 2015 showed that on average 44% of top news websites had decreased average page load time

Firefox Quantum is the fastest version of Firefox, so we thought it would be interesting to compare page load times between Firefox's Quantum Private Browsing (which includes Tracking Protection), and Chrome's Incognito mode, which includes a tracking protection feature. Is not

Study method

The study was conducted by disconnect, which is the organization behind the domain lists used for power tracking security. The page load time for the top 200 news websites, ordered by Alexa.com, Firefox Quantum (v57.0b10v57 beta) was used by both the default and private browsing methods and the latest Chrome version (v61.0.3163.100) That was available test time - even in default and in incognito mode. News sites were tested because these sites contain the highest number of trackers.

Each news website was loaded 10 times to measure comparable time for testing and to copy by others, load times were measured using the Display API for both Firefox and Chrome for page load, both for loading the page. In particular, total load time is considered as the difference between PerformanceTiming.loadEventEnd and PerformanceTiming.navigationStart. Testing was controlled through an automated script.

All rounds of trials were organized on a new MacBook Pro (13 '' MacBook Pro 2017, 3.1GHz i5, 16 GB memory, OSX 10.13). We have tested on a fast network connection with the MacBook Pro connected to a webpass 100 Mbps connection at WiFi (802.11 AC, 867 MbT / S). To dive into the methodology, check out our Mozilla Hacks post.

result

  • In the top 200 news websites of the test, the average page load time for the Firefox Quantum Private Browsing is 3.2 seconds compared to the incognito mode of Chrome, which took an average 7.7 seconds to load the page for a fast gigabit connection. This means that, formally, the Firefox browsing of Firefox Quantum is 2.4x faster in anonymous mode from Chrome.

On average Firefox Quantum's Private Browsing Load page comes in an anonymous mode from Chrome to 2.4x faster

By comparing the average load times for Chrome, it also shows that incognito mode does not just bring any speed improvement. This is the tracking protection which can be seen from the results of the Firefox quantum.

Another way of looking at this data is by looking at the time that is acceptable for users who load the page. A third party study of SOASTA Inc. recently found that an average session load time of 6 seconds already leads to a bounce rate of 70% of the users. Therefore, it puts our measurements in terms of viewing stock of browsers per browser, which took more than 6 seconds to load.

95% of page loads met the 6 second or faster threshold using Firefox Quantum Private Browsing with Tracking Protection

  • 95% of page loads of Firefox use the Quantum Private Browsing, with traffic protection, with 6 seconds or faster thresholds, while only 70% of page loads have been cut on chrome, while about third news sites are loaded into the frame of that time. Unable to run.

What will happen next?

  • While the speed improvement in Firefox quantum depends on the website, overall users can expect that personal browsing in Firefox will be faster than the box outside Chrome's incognito mode.

  • In fact, due to these findings, we wanted users to benefit from increased speed and privacy beyond the private browsing mode. With Firefox Quantum, users now have the ability to enable tracking protection in Firefox any time.

has an interest in? Then try private browsing for yourself!

  • If you use it firefox, then download Firefox Quantum, Open Preferences, every time you take it a step and enable Tracking Protection. Choose Privacy and Security and scroll until you can not find the Tracking Conservation section, Alternatively, just search for "Tracking protection" in the Preferences field. Enable traffic protection "Always" and whenever you use Firefox Quantum, you are ready to enjoy both good speed and privacy.

Upon enabling this, please keep in mind that tracking security can block the social "likes" button, comment on tools, and prevent some cross-site video content.

Tracking Protection in the new Firefox browser

If tracking security is a feature that you have used in general or you want to use more regularly, then try to know Firefox Quantum how fast it is!

  • Disconnect Inc. and Mozilla have participated in 2015 to power the tracking protection of Firefox, giving you control over the data that third parties receive online from you. The disruption list is based on the list of known trackers defined by disconnecting tracking tracking lists. As a follow-up action, we asked ourselves whether the private browsing mode of Firefox can also provide speed advantage with tracking.
