ULOG #015 : Crushed Malunggay or Moringa leaves to stop your bleeding
Has it ever happened to you where you had a bleeding scratch or mini-cut and you go to the backyard for some moringa leaves, crush it, then apply to your wound? Did the bleeding stop?
As a child, I don't recall to have ever called an adult to attend to me or to any of my friends when one of us contracted a simple wound. Nor remember being taught on what to use to stop the bleeding. One of us will know what to do in finding a moringa tree which wasn't difficult as all backyards in the province have one or two, even some along the road. Such is a common knowledge to just crush them with our fingers or use stones as mortar and pestle to create the pulp needed to apply to the wound.
Herbal medicine, anyone?
An inch scar above my ankle is a proof of such treatment received from my neighbour playmate in an accidental cut when cutting a bamboo tree needed to build our "bahay-bahayan". Of course, if the bleeding didn't stop, an adult will need to be notified which at that time was my mom quietly doing household chores. We didn't want that LOL! A mother's wrath when finding me doing something forbidden must be avoided at all times...playing or using a huge knife or bolo was a NO-NO as a pre-schooler.
Aside from malunggay, chives were also used back then but used less. In contrast to moringa trees, they were less accessible. Although we had some in the backyard, I used it less because of the smell.
You wanna know how moringa leaves or green leafy vegetables can stop a bleed?

Next time try it...of course if deep wound, it wont be enough but only the minor cuts and scratches.
This reminded me of grade school..those afternoon hours where students are tasked to do gardening. One of my classmates accidentally cut his thumb, when he showed it to us, it was holding on to its dear thin skin..i almost fainted. it was moringa leaves which our teacher used to stop the bleeding too

best herbal na pang tapal sa sugat until now ina apply ko parin siya in case... tpos healthy siyang detox juices.. nka tikim na ako niyan yung one glass of pineapple mixed with malunggay extract.. malansa nga lang pero mas gusto ko siya compare sa wheat grass ayaw ko yung consistency ny n magaspang sa lalamunan..
Ako din..di ko nagustuhan ang wheat grass. Try ko nga pineapple with malunggay kuya.
maganda yung extract juice lng po ng malunggay or you can try eh blend.. pero ako ayoko nd blend na naging puree eh... heheheh.. pde rin siya sa lemon with honey... ewan ko ba bakit wla na ngayong mga expo gaya nung dati...
To have just the extract is difficult..my mom's food is blenderized so pwede..di man nya malalasahan.
uu nga.. yung brevel na brand lng ata na brand ng juicer ang magaling sa pag extract.. ok na rin rung blended na try ko na rin yan tsaka maganda tulog ko pagkagabi nung uminom ako niyan..
But mataas ang sugar content ng pineapple ha
yung pinepple juice extract na gling sa fresh fruit...
Yeah...pineapple have one of the highest blood sugar index BSI.
I haven't tried malunggay to stop bleeding but its definitely one of the tastiest when you cook it with fish. I also heard that malunggay is good for breast feeding moms, they say it helps in producing milk.

moringa leaves look a bit like bay leaves @immarojas. Have you needed to use them at all on this trip? I hope not. 😊
